Dad Asks for Grandfather’s Release After His Two Children Die in Drunken Boat Crash

Grandfather Released on Bail After Being Accused of Drunk Boating in Fatal Crash
Stephen Schneider, 64, has been released on bail while facing charges in connection with the deaths of his two grandchildren in a fatal boating accident in Barnegat Bay, New Jersey.
The crash occurred on July 19, 2026, when the boat Schneider was operating struck a navigational marker, throwing his grandchildren, Mya Golabek, 9, and Sigmund Paul Golabek, 7, into the water. Both children died.

During a court proceeding on August 19, prosecutors alleged that Schneider was operating the boat while significantly impaired. They said his blood alcohol concentration was approximately 0.16%, about twice New Jersey’s legal limit of 0.08%.
The children’s father submitted a letter to the court asking that Schneider be released on bail. In the letter, he described Schneider as a loving grandfather who played an important role in the family’s life.

Following the hearing, Judge Wendel Daniels ordered Schneider released pending trial.
Schneider continues to face charges related to the deaths of Mya and Sigmund. His release does not resolve the criminal case, and the allegations against him have not been proven in court.
The case remains ongoing as prosecutors and the defense prepare for further proceedings.
