Lindsay Clancy Defense Rests Case as Experts Clash Over Her Mental State

The defense in Lindsay Clancy’s trial rested its case on August 21, 2026, after calling approximately 10 witnesses in an effort to show that Clancy was suffering from severe mental illness when her three children died.

Defense attorney Kevin Reddington centered the case on the argument that Clancy experienced postpartum psychosis and should not be held criminally responsible.

A key defense witness, forensic psychiatrist Dr. Phillip Resnick, testified that Clancy experienced a psychotic episode involving command hallucinations. He also said he did not believe she was faking or exaggerating her psychiatric symptoms.

The prosecution strongly challenged that assessment. Dr. Avram Mack, a psychiatric expert for the prosecution, testified that Clancy suffered from major depressive disorder, rather than psychosis or bipolar disorder. He maintained that she retained the ability to control her actions and understood what she was doing.

After the defense rested, prosecutors began presenting rebuttal witnesses to challenge the defense experts and counter its claims about Clancy’s mental state.

The trial is now approaching its final stage. Closing arguments are expected early next week, after which the jury will begin deliberations and ultimately decide whether Clancy is criminally responsible for the deaths of her three children.
