KYRAN DURNIN: MOTHER RETURNS TO IRELAND AS QUESTIONS ABOUT MISSING BOY DEEPEN

Nearly two years after Kyran Durnin was reported missing, his mother has returned to Ireland for a family visit — bringing renewed attention to one of the country’s most haunting missing-child investigations.

Dayla Durnin, who now lives in England with a new partner, recently returned to her hometown of Drogheda to visit her mother, Ronda Tyler Byrne, according to The Irish Sun. Neighbours reportedly saw Dayla visiting the family home several times this year.

But Kyran is still missing.

A BOY WHO HAS NOT BEEN SEEN FOR YEARS

Kyran was reported missing on August 30, 2024, when he was eight years old.

However, investigators later established that his last confirmed sightings were from 2022, when he was only six.

Gardaí have since launched a murder investigation and believe Kyran was likely killed around June 2022. His body has never been recovered.

The enormous gap between the last confirmed evidence of Kyran’s life and the date he was officially reported missing has become one of the most troubling aspects of the case.

 DAYLA’S RETURN

According to the latest report, Dayla has been seen visiting her mother’s home in Drogheda.

Neighbours told The Irish Sun that the family has remained largely private and has not discussed Kyran’s disappearance publicly.

One neighbour described the local community as continuing to pray for answers and said residents are lighting candles in the hope that Kyran will eventually be found.

Dayla previously left Ireland and was located in England after Gardaí sought assistance from UK authorities.

She has previously told police that she did not know where her son was or what had happened to him.

THE TIMELINE THAT HAS PUZZLED INVESTIGATORS

The investigation has revealed a deeply unusual timeline.

Kyran was believed to have been absent from school after being reported ill in 2022. His family subsequently indicated that they were moving and that he would attend school elsewhere.

But investigators later found no evidence that Kyran attended a school in Northern Ireland.

Gardaí also discovered that a child presented to officials during meetings connected with the family was not actually Kyran, according to reports surrounding the investigation.

Those discoveries helped transform the case from a missing-person inquiry into a murder investigation.

GARDAÍ BELIEVE SOMEONE KNOWS WHAT HAPPENED

Investigators have repeatedly appealed for information from anyone who may have known something about Kyran’s whereabouts.

Authorities have carried out searches of properties connected to the investigation and examined extensive CCTV and electronic evidence.

Despite those efforts, Kyran’s remains have not been found.

A woman in her 50s was arrested in May 2026 as part of the murder investigation and was later released without charge. The investigation therefore remains active, and an arrest does not itself establish criminal responsibility.

 A COMMUNITY STILL WAITING

In Drogheda, Kyran’s disappearance continues to weigh heavily on the community.

People who never knew the child personally have continued to hope that investigators will eventually discover where he was taken and what happened to him.

For his family, however, the absence of answers has lasted for years.

There is still no confirmed location for Kyran’s remains.

There is no definitive public account of his final days.

And there has been no courtroom resolution to the murder investigation.
