Colorado Husband Charged With Murder After Wife’s Death Was Initially Believed to Be Suicide

A Colorado husband has been charged with murder after his wife’s death, initially believed to be a suicide, came under suspicion following a closer investigation.

Lindsey Barnett, a teacher and mother of two who had recently given birth, was found dead at her home in Lakewood, Colorado, on August 13, 2026.

Her husband, Patrick Theodore Barnett, 40, initially told investigators that Lindsey had been struggling with postpartum depression and had died by suicide.

Investigators later uncovered details that reportedly raised questions about that explanation. Authorities found bruises consistent with defensive wounds, bloodstains, and footprints at the scene.

Police also learned that Patrick was allegedly having an affair and had told his mistress that Lindsey intended to take her own life.

Patrick was subsequently arrested and charged with murder. He is being held without bail and was scheduled to appear in court on August 20.

The case remains under investigation, and the allegations against Patrick have not been proven in court. He is presumed innocent unless found guilty.
