California Hiker Found Dead After Four-Day Search in American River Canyon

A California man from Roseville was found dead after disappearing while hiking alone in the American River Canyon.

Roberts was reported missing after he went hiking in the American River Canyon/Auburn State Recreation Area on August 21, 2026.

More than 100 search and rescue personnel took part in the extensive operation. Teams used helicopters, drones, K-9 units, and river search crews as they searched the rugged area for four days.

Roberts’ body was discovered on August 25, bringing the search to a tragic conclusion.

Authorities said the initial evidence indicated that Roberts may have slipped and fallen down a steep slope. Investigators reported no apparent signs of foul play.

The circumstances surrounding the fall remain under investigation as authorities work to establish the exact cause and manner of his death.
