Deadly Flash Floods Devastate Nepal and Tibet, Leaving at Least 157 Dead

Devastating flash floods have swept through parts of Nepal and the Tibet region of China, destroying homes, villages, roads, bridges, and hydropower facilities and leaving a major humanitarian emergency in their wake.

Nepal has reported at least 157 deaths, while hundreds of people remain missing. Authorities in China have also reported casualties in Tibet as rescue and recovery efforts continue.

Among the hardest-hit areas are Rasuwa and communities along the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers, where powerful torrents carrying mud and debris caused widespread destruction.

Experts believe the disaster may have been triggered by an initial landslide or collapse of ice from a glacier, sending a massive surge of water and debris downstream. However, the precise cause remains under investigation.

Rescue teams are being deployed to search for missing people and assist survivors. Their efforts have been severely hampered by the destruction of roads and bridges, leaving some affected communities difficult or impossible to reach by conventional routes.

Authorities continue to assess the scale of the devastation as search operations expand and emergency crews work to reach isolated areas.
