WIFE OF BRITISH GRANDFATHER KILLED IN SINGAPORE AIRLINES TURBULENCE REVEALS HORRIFIC FINAL MOMENTS

LONDON — More than two years after a terrifying Singapore Airlines flight plunged thousands of feet in seconds, the wife of British grandfather Geoff Kitchen has spoken publicly about the moment that changed her life forever.

Kitchen, 73, died after Singapore Airlines Flight SQ321 encountered severe turbulence during a flight from London to Singapore on May 20, 2024. His wife, Linda Kitchen, suffered serious spinal injuries and was taken to a hospital in Bangkok after the aircraft made an emergency landing.

“I THOUGHT THE PLANE WAS GOING DOWN”

Linda recalled that the flight had already experienced some turbulence before conditions suddenly became far more severe.

She said she noticed her Kindle and Geoff’s phone fall to the floor before the aircraft appeared to drop suddenly.

Linda, who had kept her seatbelt fastened, was thrown backward and to the side. Geoff fell onto her, leaving her unable to move.

She described feeling intense pain and screaming for help as other passengers rushed to assist them.

Geoff was eventually moved toward an emergency exit, where a doctor attempted CPR.

He later died after suffering a fatal heart attack.

The couple, who had been married for more than five decades, were beginning a six-week trip through Singapore, Indonesia, Japan and Australia when the disaster occurred.

They had been traveling aboard a Boeing 777 carrying hundreds of passengers when the aircraft encountered extreme turbulence approximately 11 hours into the journey.

The plane diverted to Bangkok, where Linda and numerous other injured passengers received emergency medical treatment.

Eighteen passengers were hospitalized, with others also suffering injuries during the violent episode.

For Linda, however, the greatest shock came after she was taken to the hospital.

She initially did not know that Geoff had died.

LEGAL ACTION SEEKS ANSWERS

Linda has now filed legal proceedings against Singapore Airlines at the High Court, seeking damages and answers about what happened aboard the flight.

Her lawyers say the case is intended to examine whether more could have been done to prevent the injuries suffered by passengers.

The legal action comes after a preliminary investigation reportedly raised questions about the aircraft’s weather radar, although the findings did not establish that radar issues caused the incident.

Singapore Airlines has declined to comment on Linda’s case because the matter is now before the courts.

“A NUMBER OF QUESTIONS AND CONCERNS”

Linda’s lawyers said the family continues to seek a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the flight.

More than two years after the incident, Linda is still dealing with the physical and emotional consequences.

For her, the legal case is not simply about compensation.

It is about understanding how a dream vacation with her husband turned into a devastating ordeal — and whether anything could have prevented the injuries that followed.

Geoff Kitchen boarded Flight SQ321 expecting the beginning of an unforgettable journey with his wife. Instead, a sudden plunge through severe turbulence changed their lives forever — and left Linda fighting for answers about the final moments they shared in the sky.
