8-Year-Old Massachusetts Boy Dies After Falling Tree Strikes Him at Summer Camp

An 8-year-old Massachusetts boy has died after being struck by a large tree branch at a summer camp in Wayland.

The victim was identified by his family as Mason Sundberg of Sudbury, Massachusetts.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:40 a.m. on August 18, 2026, at YMCA Camp Chickami in Wayland.

According to authorities, a large tree fell and brought down another tree in a “domino” effect. A large branch then struck Mason, seriously injuring him.

Emergency responders transported the boy by air to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he received treatment. Despite medical efforts, Mason later died from his injuries.

A camp staff member was also struck by a smaller branch during the incident but suffered only minor injuries.

Mason’s death has left his family, friends, and the local community mourning the loss of a young child following the tragic accident at the summer camp.

Authorities are continuing to review the circumstances surrounding the tree collapse.
