4-year-old loses part of leg in lawnmower accident: ‘A lot of surgeries’

A 4-year-old Michigan girl is facing a long recovery after she lost part of her leg in a lawnmower accident.

Brielle Thompson’s aunt and uncle, Abigail and Jonathan Thompson, said she was visiting Minnesota with her family when the accident happened.

“Right now, it’s just a waiting game of how well she’s able to heal,” Abigail Thompson said.

Brielle and her family are from Lake Orion, but were vacationing in Minnesota when it happened.

“She was airlifted to a hospital and has had multiple surgeries,” Abigail Thompson said.

A 4-year-old is facing a long recovery after a lawnmower accident while visiting relatives.
The family said doctors are trying to save her knee.

“If she’s able to keep her knee, that would be optimal just because it provides better prosthetic options, better mobility,” Abigail Thompson said.

Brielle’s parents and siblings have remained in Minnesota as she goes through her surgeries.

“A lot of surgeries,” Abigail Thompson added.

Jonathan Thompson said the zero-turn lawnmower accident changed all of their lives.

“Evan, he’s the sole provider for their family and he’s now far from home and his workshop, so that’s going to be impacted a lot, and then you think of all of the little things, every meal, out-of-state housing,” Jonathan Thompson said.

The Thompsons started a GoFundMe to help with Brielle’s expenses and other costs.

Abigail Thompson also said they have been receiving an outpouring of support from the community.

“It has been so amazing just to see the support of the community,” Abigail Thompson said.

She added that the family has been leaning on faith as they go through this tough time.

“They’re trusting God through it all. They know that God has a plan for their daughter,” Abigail Thompson said.

The family did not say when Brielle will be released from the hospital.
