And, remarkably, Sklar says she has never experienced another seizure since.

THEN SOMETHING STRANGE HAPPENED

While she was still in the hospital, Sklar began noticing something unusual.

When doctors and nurses spoke to her, the words seemed to automatically run through her mind in reverse.

She wasn’t deliberately reversing them.

Her brain was simply doing it.

YEARS LATER, RESEARCHERS FINALLY TOOK NOTICE

It wasn’t until 2017 that someone contacted Sklar about her unusual ability.

Dr. Dianne Newbury of Oxford Brookes University reached out to her on Twitter after learning about her ability to process language backwards.

A year later, researcher Dr. Hayley Mountford traveled to meet Sklar and conducted a series of tests.

The research included brain exercises, word-reversal tasks, logic puzzles and other activities designed to better understand how her brain processed language.

For Sklar, it was the first time the phenomenon that had followed her since adolescence was being formally investigated.

Sklar is now 32.

The strange ability has remained with her for more than half of her life.

She has not undergone further specialized evaluations focused specifically on the backwards processing.

And no medical professional has yet been able to give her a definitive answer.

What began as a frightening medical mystery has instead become an unusual part of her everyday life.

Over time, she has learned to control the ability more effectively.

It has even become a private form of communication that she can share with people close to her.

Earlier this month, Sklar shared her experience on TikTok.

The response was enormous.

According to PEOPLE, the video had reached more than 4.1 million people by the time of its report.
