BABY S WAS BORN AT 37 WEEKS — THEN HER FAMILY’S BIGGEST MYSTERY EMERGED

A newborn baby girl had only just entered the world when a horrifying investigation began — and when the case reached court, one of the most basic details about her family was still unknown.

Baby S was born at 37 weeks in the early hours of Sunday, August 30, at an address in Sheffield, South Yorkshire.

Her mother, Andrea Skopova, 20, later went to hospital. Medical staff recognised that she had recently given birth and alerted police shortly after 5 a.m.

What followed would lead to a murder investigation and the arrest of several people connected to the young mother.

But when prosecutors outlined the case in court, they revealed a striking detail:

Baby S’s father is still unknown.

HER MOTHER’S BOYFRIEND IS ACCUSED

Skopova’s current boyfriend, Peter Horvath Jr., 19, is among four adults charged with the murder of Baby S.

His parents, Peter Horvath Sr., 38, and Nina Horvathova, 37, are also accused.

Prosecutor Luke Hopkinson told the court that Horvath Jr. is not believed to be the baby’s father.

All four adults are also charged with causing or allowing the death of a child and perverting the course of justice by allegedly taking steps to conceal what happened.

A 15-year-old girl has separately been charged with perverting the course of justice. Her identity is protected because of her age.

All five defendants have been remanded in custody.

THE DISCOVERY IN THE OUTHOUSE

The case came to light after emergency services were called over concerns for the safety of an infant in the Wincobank area of Sheffield.

Baby S was found dead in an outbuilding at a property in Holywell Heights.

Prosecutors told the court that the newborn had suffered 33 wounds from 15 separate stabbings.

She was found wrapped in a towel and placed inside a blue bag, which had been left on top of a washing machine.

A post-mortem examination found that Baby S died as a result of stab wounds.

Police have said the investigation remains complex and have urged members of the public not to speculate or share unverified information online.

A FAMILY AT THE CENTRE OF THE INVESTIGATION

The four adult defendants are all Slovakian nationals.

Skopova is accused alongside her boyfriend and his parents — placing an entire family group at the centre of an investigation into the death of a baby who had been born only hours earlier.

Two other women, aged 26 and 37, were also arrested on suspicion of murder but remain on bail while the investigation continues.

The court has heard that investigators have recovered a potential weapon and CCTV footage as they attempt to establish exactly what happened inside the property.

What happened during the short period between her birth and the emergency call?

And how did a newborn baby come to be found hidden inside an outbuilding?

Those questions may become central as the prosecution case develops.

The five defendants did not enter pleas during their latest hearing and have not been convicted of any offence.

Their trial is provisionally scheduled to begin on April 12, 2027, and is expected to last between six and seven weeks.

Until then, investigators will continue trying to reconstruct the final hours of Baby S’s life — and determine exactly who was responsible for what happened to her.
