FIVE DEAD, FIVE INJURED AFTER AMAZON CARGO PLANE CRASHES INTO VEHICLES AT MIAMI AIRPORT

A fiery Amazon cargo plane crash at Miami International Airport has left at least five people dead and five others injured after the aircraft overran the runway, struck multiple vehicles and burst into flames.

Amazon Prime Air Flight 7598, a Boeing 767-300 freighter operated by 21 Air, was attempting to land at Miami International Airport at around 2 p.m. Sunday after departing from San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Instead, the aircraft ran beyond the end of the runway, crossed onto a nearby roadway and slammed into multiple vehicles before coming to a stop.

Then came the flames.

Thick black smoke rose above the airport as emergency crews rushed toward the wreckage.

More than 60 Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units and around 200 emergency personnel responded to the devastating scene.

FIVE LIVES LOST

Authorities later confirmed that five people died in the crash.

Another five people were injured, including three who were critically injured.

The identities of those who died have not yet been publicly released.

Authorities have also not immediately clarified whether all of the victims were inside the aircraft or whether some were occupants of vehicles struck after the plane left the runway.

The pilot and co-pilot were reportedly trapped inside the aircraft as rescue crews worked to reach those affected.

At least one person also had to be rescued from beneath a vehicle, according to emergency-response reports.

PLANE ERUPTS IN FLAMES

Images from the scene showed the Boeing 767 resting beside a roadway with significant damage and scorch marks.

The aircraft had crossed beyond the runway and struck vehicles before the crash turned into a major emergency operation.

Firefighters battled the flames while crews also dealt with a fuel leak.

The airport was forced to halt operations as emergency responders worked at the scene.

More than 160 flights were canceled and nearly 325 were delayed, creating major disruption for travelers across the airport.

WHAT CAUSED THE CRASH?

That is now the central question.

The National Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation, with NTSB Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy expected to oversee the federal response.

The Federal Aviation Administration is also involved.

Investigators will examine everything from the aircraft’s approach and landing to runway conditions, mechanical systems and weather.

Thunderstorms and strong winds were reported in the area, but authorities have not established weather as the cause of the crash.

Investigators are also expected to determine exactly how far down the runway the aircraft landed and why it was unable to stop before reaching the roadway.

AMAZON RESPONDS

Amazon said it was devastated by the loss of life and expressed condolences to the families and loved ones of those affected.

21 Air, the company operating the aircraft, also said it was cooperating fully with federal and local authorities.

The investigation remains active, and officials have not yet released the identities of the victims.

For now, the images from Miami tell only part of the story.

A routine cargo flight from Puerto Rico ended with a burning aircraft, shattered vehicles and five families facing unimaginable loss.

And as investigators begin piecing together the final moments of Flight 7598, one question remains at the center of the investigation:

Why couldn’t the Boeing 767 stop before it ran off the runway?

The answer may take time — but the search for it has already begun.
