FOUR PEOPLE ACCUSED OVER NEWBORN BABY’S DEATH FACE FURTHER SERIOUS ALLEGATIONS — AND THEY CENTRE ON WHAT HAPPENED AFTERWARD

Four people accused in connection with the death of a newborn baby girl in Sheffield are facing additional serious charges over what prosecutors say happened after the infant died.

Andrea Skopova, 20, Peter Horvath Jr, 19, Peter Horvath Sr, 38, and Nina Horvathova, 37, have all been charged with murder following the discovery of Baby S at a property in the Wincobank area of Sheffield.

But the allegations against them go beyond the circumstances surrounding the baby’s death.

Prosecutors also allege that the four caused or allowed the death of a child and perverted the course of justice by taking steps to conceal what had happened, including the alleged cleaning of the scene.

BABY FOUND ON TOP OF A WASHING MACHINE

The investigation began on August 30, when South Yorkshire Police responded to a report concerning a newborn baby at a property in Holywell Heights.

Officers discovered Baby S dead inside an outbuilding, where she was found on top of a washing machine.

A post-mortem examination later established that the baby’s cause of death was stab wounds.

The court has heard that the newborn suffered 33 wounds from 15 separate stabbings, adding another horrifying detail to a case that has shocked the Sheffield community.

Seven people were initially arrested during the investigation.

Two women, aged 26 and 37, were later released on bail, while the four adults and a 15-year-old girl were charged.

A FIFTH PERSON IS ALSO ACCUSED

The 15-year-old girl appeared in court alongside the four adults.

She has been charged separately with perverting the course of justice.

Because she is under 18, she cannot legally be identified.

The four adult defendants were remanded in custody following their court appearance.

Their case is expected to proceed to trial next year.

WHAT HAPPENED AFTER BABY S DIED?

That is now one of the central questions surrounding the investigation.

The prosecution allegations include an accusation that steps were taken to conceal the circumstances surrounding Baby S’s death.

Those allegations include the cleaning of the scene, which prosecutors say amounted to an attempt to pervert the course of justice.

The details have intensified public interest in what happened inside the property during the crucial period between the baby’s death and the arrival of police.

However, investigators have warned the public against speculation while the criminal proceedings remain active.

Detective Chief Inspector Tom Woodward has urged people not to circulate unverified information online, stressing the importance of protecting the integrity of the investigation and any future trial.

TRIAL EXPECTED NEXT YEAR

The four adults remain accused and have not been convicted of any offence.

Their case is expected to return to court before the murder trial begins in 2027.

Until then, prosecutors will have to prove their allegations beyond reasonable doubt before a jury.

For Baby S’s family and those following the case, however, one question remains particularly haunting:

What exactly happened inside that Sheffield property — and what happened in the hours after the newborn’s death?

Those answers may ultimately have to wait until the evidence is heard in court.
