“MY BELOVED HUSBAND, MY BEST FRIEND” — WIFE OF PC MATTHEW BLADES PAYS HEARTBREAKING TRIBUTE AFTER A66 TRAGEDY

PC Matthew Blades, 37, was among seven people who lost their lives in the devastating A66 collision in August.

Now, his wife has shared a deeply personal tribute to the man she described as her “beloved husband,” “best friend,” and the “most devoted father” to their two young boys.

She said there were “no words” that could ever truly honour Matt — describing him as a devoted husband, father, son, brother and uncle.

But there was another side of Matthew that meant everything to his family.

He was also a football coach.

Matthew coached his sons and other local children, with football clubs remembering him as a role model, mentor and friend.

His family said his children will grow up knowing what an incredible father he was.

Five young men in another vehicle also lost their lives. The Independent Office for Police Conduct is investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

For those who knew Matthew, however, he was never simply a police officer.

He was a husband.

A father.

A coach.

And, to two little boys, their hero.

His wife’s final words captured the heartbreak of a family suddenly forced to live without him:

But to his wife and children, he was so much more than a name connected to a tragic headline.
