Four American Family Members Die After Plane Disappears Over Bahamas

Four members of an American family have died after a Piper PA-34 aircraft carrying them lost contact shortly after departing Great Harbour Cay in the Bahamas on September 7.

The aircraft was traveling toward Miami when communication was lost. Authorities later determined that the plane was believed to have crashed into waters near Andros Island, prompting a search-and-rescue operation.

Those aboard were identified as Mario Lamar Sr., 80, his wife, Lili Lamar, 79, and their grandchildren, Sofi Sosa, 28, and Christian Sosa, 22.

The disappearance quickly prompted an extensive search involving authorities, relatives and local volunteers. Family members reportedly took part directly in the search and recovery effort as rescuers worked to locate the missing aircraft and those on board.

By September 8, all four bodies had been recovered, bringing a tragic conclusion to the search.
