The newborn girl was only hours old when her life came to a tragic end.
But what investigators allegedly found afterward has added another deeply disturbing layer to the case.
Baby S was discovered at a property in Sheffield’s Wincobank area after police were called in the early hours of August 30 following concerns about the safety of a newborn.
She was not found in the main house.
Instead, prosecutors told the court that her body had been wrapped in a towel, placed inside a blue bag and left on top of a washing machine in an outhouse.
33 INJURIES — 15 SEPARATE STABBINGS
The court heard that Baby S had suffered 33 injuries from 15 separate stabbings.
The wounds were to her face and torso, including the front and back of her body.
A doctor told the court that the baby was alive when the injuries were inflicted.
A post-mortem examination later found that she died from stab wounds.
The details have shocked the community — but investigators are also examining what happened after the attack.
WHY WAS THE BABY IN THE OUTHOUSE?
That question has become one of the most disturbing elements of the investigation.
According to prosecutors, Baby S was not simply discovered inside the property where she had been born.
Her body was allegedly concealed in an outhouse, wrapped in a towel and placed inside a blue bag before being left on a washing machine.
The four adults now charged with murder also face allegations of causing or allowing the death of a child and perverting the course of justice by taking steps to conceal what happened.
The prosecution case has not been proven at trial.
THE BABY HAD ONLY JUST BEEN BORN
Baby S was born in the early hours of Sunday, August 30, at 37 weeks’ gestation.
Prosecutors told Sheffield Crown Court that her mother is Andrea Skopova, 20.
Shortly after giving birth, Skopova went to hospital.
Medical staff alerted police shortly after 5 a.m., prompting officers to attend the relevant addresses.
The baby was ultimately located at the Holywell Heights property.
FOUR ADULTS NOW FACE MURDER CHARGES
Skopova is charged alongside Peter Horvath Jr, 19; Peter Horvath Sr, 38; and Nina Horvathova, 37.
The four Slovakian nationals face charges of murder, causing or allowing the death of a child, and perverting the course of justice.
A 15-year-old girl has separately been charged with perverting the course of justice and cannot legally be named.
Two other women, aged 26 and 37, were arrested on suspicion of murder but remain on bail.
THE NEXT CHAPTER WILL PLAY OUT IN COURT
All five defendants have been remanded in custody.
At Sheffield Crown Court, Judge Sarah Wright set a provisional trial date of April 12, 2027, with the case expected to last six to seven weeks. The next hearing is scheduled for October 2, 2026.
Police have urged the public not to speculate or share potentially prejudicial information online while the proceedings are active.
For now, one fact remains at the center of the investigation:
A newborn baby who had only just entered the world was found not in a crib, not in a bedroom, and not where a newborn would normally be cared for — but wrapped in a towel, inside a blue bag, on top of a washing machine in an outhouse.
And prosecutors say four adults will now face court over what happened to her.
