A newborn baby girl had been brought into the world only hours earlier.

But when police arrived at a Sheffield property after concerns were raised about her safety, Baby S was nowhere to be found at the main address.

Officers then searched another property in the Wincobank area.

What they discovered there would become one of the most disturbing details in the case.

The baby was found inside an outhouse, wrapped in a towel and placed inside a blue bag on top of a washing machine, the court heard.

Prosecutors allege that Baby S had suffered 33 wounds from 15 separate stabbings, including injuries to her face and torso, front and back.

A doctor told the court that the newborn was alive when the injuries were inflicted.

Now, four adults are facing murder charges.

A BABY BORN JUST HOURS BEFORE THE POLICE ALERT

The case began on the morning of August 30, 2026, when a baby girl was born at an address in Sheffield.

The child, referred to in court as Baby S, had been born at approximately 37 weeks’ gestation.

Her mother, Andrea Skopova, 20, later attended hospital.

It was there that medical staff became concerned and contacted police shortly after 5am.

Officers went to the address in response to concerns for the safety of an infant.

But the baby was not there.

Investigators then went to an address in Holywell Heights, where they eventually discovered the newborn.

THE DISCOVERY IN THE OUTBUILDING

According to the prosecution, police located Baby S in an outhouse.

She was wrapped in towelling and inside a blue bag.

She was found on top of a washing machine.

The court heard that the baby was already deceased when officers discovered her.

The forensic findings made the case even more disturbing.

Prosecutors said Baby S had sustained 33 wounds, including 15 separate stabbings.

The injuries were described as affecting her face and torso, both at the front and back.

A potential weapon was later recovered and is being examined by investigators, while CCTV footage has also been obtained as part of the investigation.

FOUR ADULTS CHARGED WITH MURDER

Four Slovakian adults have been charged in connection with Baby S’s death.

They are:

• Andrea Skopova, 20
• Peter Horvath Jr, 19
• Peter Horvath Sr, 38
• Nina Horvathova, 37

All four face charges of murder, as well as causing or allowing the death of a child and perverting the course of justice.

The prosecution alleges that steps were taken to conceal what had happened.

Horvath Jr is described as Skopova’s boyfriend and the son of Horvath Sr and Horvathova.

The court has heard that Horvath Jr is not believed to be Baby S’s father, while the identity of the baby’s father has not been established publicly.

A FIFTH PERSON ALSO FACES A CHARGE

A 15-year-old girl has also been charged with perverting the course of justice.

Because of her age, she cannot legally be identified.

Authorities have not publicly detailed a specific alleged role for the teenager beyond the charge she faces.

Two other women, aged 26 and 37, were also arrested on suspicion of murder and remain on bail while the investigation continues.

THE QUESTION AT THE CENTER OF THE DISCOVERY

The location where Baby S was found has inevitably raised questions.

Why was the newborn found in an outhouse rather than at the main property?

Why was she wrapped in a towel and placed inside a blue bag?

And what happened during the short period between her birth and the moment police arrived?

Those questions are part of an ongoing investigation.

At this stage, however, the precise circumstances surrounding why Baby S was placed in the outbuilding — and who was responsible for each alleged act — remain matters for investigators and ultimately the court.

A COURT CASE THAT COULD LAST WEEKS

The four adults appeared at Sheffield Crown Court on September 3.

The hearing was emotionally charged, with members of the defendants’ families watching from the public gallery. Skopova and the 15-year-old girl were reported to have cried during the proceedings.

Judge Sarah Wright set the trial to begin on April 12, 2027.

The trial is expected to last six to seven weeks.

All five defendants were remanded in custody, with the next hearing scheduled for October 2, 2026.

South Yorkshire Police described the investigation as complex and thanked the local community for its support.

The Crown Prosecution Service has also stressed that the proceedings are active and that every defendant has the right to a fair trial.

THE NEWBORN AT THE CENTER OF A COMPLEX INVESTIGATION

Baby S had only just entered the world.

Within hours, police were searching for her.

They eventually found her in an outbuilding, in circumstances that prosecutors say form part of a deeply disturbing case.

But despite the shocking details already heard in court, many questions remain unanswered.

Who was responsible? What happened between the baby’s birth and the police discovery? And why was Baby S found in that outbuilding?

Those are questions the upcoming court proceedings will seek to address.

For now, the allegations remain allegations — and the defendants have not been convicted of any offence.
