A 53-year-old single mother disappeared from Washington, D.C. Her car was still outside. Her dog was still inside. Even her phone and keys were left behind. Now her family is desperately searching for answers.
Antoinette Forbes was preparing for Christmas plans with her sister.
Just days later, she was gone.
The 53-year-old single mother from Washington, D.C. has been missing since Friday, September 4, 2026, and police are still trying to determine what happened to her.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, Forbes was last seen in the 3200 block of Nebraska Avenue NW.
But what investigators found at her home has left her family deeply concerned.
SHE DIDN’T TAKE THE THINGS SHE WOULD NORMALLY NEED
When a friend went to check on Forbes, several important belongings were reportedly still inside.
Her keys, phones, purse and wallet were found at the home.
Her dog was also inside.
And her car remained parked outside.
For her family, the circumstances make little sense.
Her sister, Aileen Forbes, said she and Antoinette were extremely close and described them as “practically twins.”
She told WUSA that there was no way she believed her sister would simply leave voluntarily.
THE LAST CONVERSATION
Aileen said she last spoke with Antoinette on the morning of Saturday, September 5 — one day after she was last seen.
The sisters were talking about Christmas plans and making arrangements for the holiday.
Then Antoinette stopped responding.
Aileen became even more alarmed when she later sent another message after testing positive for COVID.
There was no response.
For someone who normally stayed in contact with her sister, the silence was deeply unusual.
“She loves me, so she wouldn’t not respond,” Aileen told WUSA, according to PEOPLE.
HER SON IS STILL WAITING FOR HER
Antoinette is a single mother to a 10-year-old son.
Aileen described him as her sister’s world.
That detail has made the disappearance even more difficult for the family to understand.
Aileen described Antoinette as responsible, capable and devoted to her family.
“Honestly, we’re in shock,” she told WJLA. “We can’t even believe this is happening.”
POLICE ARE NOW SEARCHING THE NEIGHBORHOOD
The Metropolitan Police Department is actively investigating the disappearance.
Investigators have been seen at Forbes’ home and have spoken with people in the surrounding neighborhood as they try to establish what happened after she was last seen.
As of the latest reports, police have not publicly announced that Forbes has been found, nor have authorities publicly confirmed what caused her disappearance.
Authorities describe Forbes as approximately 5 feet 2 inches tall and 115 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Her clothing at the time she disappeared was not known.
THE FAMILY IS PLEADING FOR HER RETURN
Aileen says an entire community is now searching for her sister.
“There’s an army right now who are working to recover her, to bring her home safely,” she said, according to DC News Now.
