Groom Injured in Head-On Crash Hours Before Wedding — So the Couple Got Married at the Hospital

What was supposed to be a wedding day filled with celebration suddenly became a medical emergency — but one Florida couple refused to let a crash stop them from saying “I do.”

Kapri DeRamus and Tyasia Thomas were preparing to get married on September 5, 2026, in Altamonte Springs, Florida.

DeRamus was driving toward their wedding venue when another vehicle struck his car head-on.

The crash left him with serious injuries, including fractures to both arms and his jaw, as well as a broken rib.

Thomas learned about the accident only about an hour before their scheduled wedding ceremony. Instead of heading to the venue, she and her family rushed to the hospital to be by DeRamus’s side.

But even after seeing the extent of his injuries, the couple made a remarkable decision.

They weren’t going to call off the wedding.

That evening, the hospital became their wedding venue.

With DeRamus still receiving medical care, the couple exchanged their vows surrounded by family. DeRamus’s grandfather officiated the ceremony, turning an otherwise heartbreaking day into a moment the couple and their loved ones would never forget.

The circumstances were far from what they had planned, but the meaning of the day remained the same: they had come together to begin their life as husband and wife.

DeRamus remained in the hospital for several more days as he recovered from his injuries. He was finally discharged on September 9, four days after the crash.
