The Sheffield case surrounding the death of a newborn baby girl has taken another disturbing turn after prosecutors revealed a detail about one of the four adults facing murder charges.

Peter Horvath Jr., 19, was the boyfriend of the baby’s mother, Andrea Skopova, 20. But the identity of Baby S’s father remains unknown, and Horvath Jr. is not believed to be the father.

That revelation has added another unanswered question to a case that has already shocked the local community.

THE DISCOVERY THAT STARTED THE INVESTIGATION

Police were called to a property on Holywell Heights in the Wincobank area of Sheffield on August 30 after receiving a report concerning the safety of an infant.

Inside the property, officers discovered a newborn baby girl who had died.

A forensic post-mortem later determined that the baby’s cause of death was stab wounds, according to the Crown Prosecution Service.

The investigation quickly escalated, with several people arrested as detectives worked to establish what had happened inside the property.

The CPS subsequently announced charges against four adults:

• Andrea Skopova, 20, the baby’s mother
• Peter Horvath Jr., 19, Skopova’s boyfriend
• Peter Horvath Sr., 38
• Nina Horvathova, 37

All four have been charged with murder, as well as causing or allowing the death of a child and perverting the course of justice.

A 15-year-old girl has separately been charged with perverting the course of justice. She cannot legally be named because of her age.

BUT ONE BASIC QUESTION REMAINS UNANSWERED

Among the many questions surrounding the case is one that might appear fundamental:

Who was Baby S’s father?

According to reporting from the court proceedings, the baby’s father has not been identified.

And despite being Skopova’s boyfriend, Horvath Jr. is not believed to be the father.
