A family of four left home on Monday expecting nothing more than an ordinary drive.

They never made it back.

Giovanni, Kiah and their two young children were killed in a devastating crash on Arizona State Route 260 near Heber on September 7, 2026.

The collision happened around 12:31 p.m. near milepost 300, when a truck reportedly crossed into the opposite lane and slammed head-on into the family’s Nissan Sentra.

Four members of the family were killed.

Two other people were seriously injured.

What makes the tragedy even more heartbreaking is what investigators say happened moments before the crash.

Authorities identified the truck driver as 21-year-old Jesse David Lovato.

According to investigators, Lovato told authorities he had been driving from Phoenix toward New Mexico when he fell asleep behind the wheel.

He also reportedly acknowledged drinking alcohol the night before.

Lovato was arrested and faces four counts of manslaughter and two counts of negligent homicide, according to the case records. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have indicated that the charges could change or expand as more evidence is reviewed.

But behind those legal charges are four people whose lives can never be restored.
