AUGUST “GUS” LAMONT DISAPPEARED FROM HIS FAMILY’S REMOTE AUSTRALIAN PROPERTY MONTHS AGO. NOW THE CASE HAS TAKEN A MAJOR TURN.

Four-year-old August “Gus” Lamont vanished from his family’s remote property in the Australian outback — leaving behind almost no clues.

Now, months after his disappearance, police have identified a suspect who they say was known to Gus and had lived at the property.

The development has transformed the investigation into a major crime case.

GUS DISAPPEARED WHILE PLAYING

Gus was last seen on September 27, 2025, at Oak Park Station, a remote sheep property about 25 miles from Yunta in South Australia.

According to police, the four-year-old had been playing in sand near the family home when he disappeared.

One of the few physical clues left behind was reportedly a single footprint.

Despite extensive searches of the surrounding outback, investigators have been unable to establish where Gus went.

HUNDREDS JOINED THE SEARCH

The search for the little boy became a massive operation.

South Australia Police said the effort involved 163 police members and 230 additional personnel, including emergency-service workers, Australian Defence Force members, an Indigenous tracker and community volunteers.

Investigators searched vast areas around Oak Park Station, including three dams and six mine shafts within a 10-kilometre radius.

Aerial searches were also conducted across the surrounding outback.

But despite the extraordinary effort, police said they found no evidence suggesting Gus simply wandered away from the property.

THEN THE INVESTIGATION TOOK A SHOCKING TURN

In January, police executed a search warrant at Oak Park Station.

Several items were seized, including a vehicle, a motorcycle and electronic devices.

Investigators also identified what they described as inconsistencies and discrepancies in information surrounding Gus’ disappearance.

Then came the crucial development.

Police said a person who had been living at Oak Park Station withdrew their cooperation with investigators.

That person is now considered a suspect.

Authorities stressed that Gus’ parents are not suspects in his disappearance.

POLICE SAY ABDUCTION IS NO LONGER THE LEADING THEORY

Task Force Horizon had been investigating two possibilities — that Gus had been abducted by an unknown person, or that someone known to him had been involved.

Police now say they have found no evidence suggesting Gus was abducted by an unknown person.

Instead, investigators are focusing on the possibility that someone familiar to the four-year-old was involved in his disappearance and suspected death.

However, Gus has not been found, and police have not publicly disclosed what happened to him.

THE SEARCH IS NOT OVER

Detectives say additional searches will be conducted at Oak Park Station and nearby areas as new information emerges.

Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke said investigators remain determined to locate Gus and provide answers to his family.

For Gus’ loved ones, the wait has now stretched for months.

A little boy disappeared from a remote property.

There was no clear trail.

And now, investigators are looking much closer to home.
