South Australia Police have declared Gus’ disappearance a major crime and confirmed that a person who resided at the property where the little boy disappeared is now considered a suspect.

But Gus himself has still not been found.

A LITTLE BOY WHO SIMPLY DISAPPEARED

Gus disappeared from Oak Park Station, a remote family property near Yunta, on September 27, 2025.

At the time, he was just four years old.

According to police, Gus had been playing outside at the family’s sheep farm. The property is located in a remote part of South Australia, roughly 25 miles from Yunta.

His disappearance triggered a massive search operation involving police, emergency personnel, Australian Defence Force resources, Indigenous trackers and community volunteers.

Despite extensive searches of the surrounding area, investigators have been unable to locate him.

NOW POLICE SAY SOMEONE KNOWN TO GUS IS A SUSPECT

The biggest development came months after Gus disappeared.

Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke said investigators had identified “inconsistencies and discrepancies” in information provided during the investigation.

Police then confirmed that one person who had been residing at Oak Park Station had withdrawn their cooperation.

That person is now considered a suspect in Gus’ disappearance.

Authorities have stressed one crucial point:

Gus’ parents are not suspects.

Police have also said there is no evidence that Gus simply wandered away from the property or that he was abducted by an unknown person.

POLICE SEARCHED THE PROPERTY AGAIN

In January, investigators obtained a search warrant for Oak Park Station.

Several items were seized, including a vehicle, a motorcycle and electronic devices.

Police also searched three dams and six mine shafts within the surrounding area as they continued trying to establish exactly what happened to Gus.

The scale of the operation has been enormous.

According to police, the search involved 163 South Australia Police personnel and 230 additional resources, including emergency services, Australian Defence Force personnel, an Indigenous tracker and volunteers.

Yet there has still been no sign of the missing child.

A FAMILY LEFT WAITING FOR ANSWERS

Gus’ disappearance has devastated his family and shocked the wider Australian community.

His grandmothers have publicly expressed their devastation over the police decision to classify the disappearance as a major crime.

For months, investigators had worked to establish what happened during the crucial period when Gus disappeared.

The latest development has now changed the direction of the investigation.

Instead of focusing solely on the possibility that a four-year-old child wandered into the vast surrounding landscape, police are examining whether someone who knew Gus may have been involved.
