For more than a decade, Sir Tom Jones has been one of the defining faces of The Voice UK.

The 86-year-old Welsh music legend joined the show when it launched in 2012 and became one of its most recognizable coaches.

But ahead of the next series, his familiar red chair will belong to someone else.

Jones confirmed that he did not decide to leave the programme. He said ITV told him about the decision only recently and that financial difficulties involving insurance had been cited as part of the reason.

He also revealed that he had been offered a significantly reduced role rather than continuing as a full-time coach — an arrangement he did not want.

ITV CALLS IT A “REFRESH”

ITV has framed the change differently.

The broadcaster has described the upcoming series as a refresh, with Jones no longer returning as a full-time coach.

The new panel will feature will.i.am and Kelly Rowland, alongside newcomers Cheryl and Aitch.

The changes also extend beyond the coaching panel, with Alesha Dixon and Stacey Solomon taking over presenting duties.

ITV has also said it enjoyed working with Jones and has indicated that discussions about a possible future role have continued.

But for fans, that explanation has done little to calm the backlash.

WILL.I.AM IS REPORTEDLY FURIOUS

One of the biggest twists came from Jones’ longtime fellow coach, will.i.am.

The Black Eyed Peas star has reportedly been deeply unhappy with the way Jones’ departure was handled.

He has also backed a petition calling for Jones to be reinstated.

During filming for the new series, the situation reportedly became emotional, with reports that will.i.am broke down in tears while discussing his longtime colleague.

He later indicated that he had returned to the show with Jones’ blessing.

That has added another layer to an already uncomfortable transition.

FANS ARE DEMANDING HIS RETURN

The reaction from viewers has been immediate.
