“NOT INTERESTED!” TOM JONES FANS TURN ON THE VOICE AFTER NATIONAL TREASURE IS REPLACED
Viewers are threatening to boycott the hit singing show after Sir Tom Jones was dropped from the coaching line-up — with some saying they simply “won’t be watching” without the legendary singer
Fans of The Voice UK are furious after the show confirmed that legendary singer Sir Tom Jones will no longer return as a full-time coach, bringing an end to his long-running role on the programme.
The 86-year-old Welsh music icon has been a major part of The Voice UK since its launch in 2012, appearing as a coach for all but one series.
But ahead of the show’s next season, ITV has dramatically reshuffled the line-up — and some viewers are making it clear they are not happy.
“NOT INTERESTED NOW”
Following the announcement of the new line-up, angry viewers flooded social media with complaints about Tom’s departure.
Some fans went as far as saying they would boycott the show, while others claimed they had lost interest in watching altogether.
One viewer described the decision as a mistake and said the show’s viewing figures could suffer.
Another complained that Tom Jones was a “national treasure” who should not have been replaced.
Others simply wrote: “Not interested now.”
The reaction shows just how strongly some longtime viewers have connected Tom with the identity of The Voice UK.
TOM JONES SAYS HE DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE
The controversy intensified when Tom himself addressed his departure.
The singer said he did not want to leave The Voice, explaining that he loved the programme and appreciated its audience.
According to Tom, ITV made the decision and told him only recently.
He said the reason initially given to him involved financial difficulties relating to insurance. He also said ITV later described the change as an attempt to “refresh” the show.
Tom also revealed that he had been offered a significantly reduced role, involving appearances without being involved from the beginning of the competition.
He made clear that he was unhappy with that arrangement.
A MAJOR SHAKE-UP
Tom’s departure is part of a much wider overhaul of The Voice UK.
For the next series, Cheryl and rapper Aitch will join the coaching panel, alongside returning coaches will.i.am and Kelly Rowland.
The presenting team is also changing, with Stacey Solomon and Alesha Dixon taking over from long-time host Emma Willis.
ITV has described Tom as “irreplaceable” and thanked him for his contribution to the programme.
However, for many viewers, the decision has clearly struck a nerve.
FELLOW STARS SPEAK OUT
The backlash has not been limited to ordinary viewers.
Former The Voice coach Olly Murs sent a message of support to Tom, while television personalities including Carol Vorderman have also criticised the decision.
There have also been reports that longtime coach will.i.am was deeply upset by Tom’s departure during filming for the new series.
Tom’s influence on the show has been significant.
During his time as a coach, he helped mentor performers who went on to win their respective series, while becoming one of the programme’s most recognisable faces.
THE QUESTION NOW: CAN THE VOICE SURVIVE WITHOUT TOM?
ITV clearly hopes the revamped line-up will give The Voice UK a fresh identity.
But the angry reaction from longtime viewers raises an uncomfortable question for producers:
Will fans accept a new era — or will some simply switch off?
For supporters who grew up with Tom Jones as one of the defining faces of the show, his absence will be impossible to ignore.
And with some viewers already threatening to boycott the programme, the new season could face its biggest test before the first singer even takes the stage.
A LEGENDARY COACH IS GONE. A BRAND-NEW LINE-UP IS COMING. AND SOME FANS ARE ALREADY SAYING THEY WON’T BE WATCHING.
