NEWBORN BABY FOUND DEAD IN SHEFFIELD — FOUR PEOPLE, INCLUDING HER MOTHER, FACE MURDER CHARGES
Andrea Skopova, Peter Horvath Jr, Peter Horvath Sr and Nina Horvathova have been charged after a newborn girl was found dead at a property in Sheffield. A fifth defendant, a 15-year-old girl, is accused of attempting to conceal what happened.
A newborn baby girl known only as Baby S is at the centre of a major criminal investigation in Sheffield after she was found dead at a property in the Wincobank area.
Four adults have been charged with her murder, including the baby’s mother, Andrea Skopova, 20.
Also charged are Peter Horvath Jr, 19, Peter Horvath Sr, 38, and Nina Horvathova, 37.
All four are Slovakian nationals and face additional allegations of causing or allowing the death of a child and perverting the course of justice.
THE DISCOVERY THAT SHOCKED SHEFFIELD
Emergency services were called to Holywell Heights, Wincobank, Sheffield, on Sunday, August 30, 2026, after concerns were raised about an infant.
Police subsequently discovered Baby S in an outbuilding at the property.
A court heard that the newborn had suffered 33 wounds from 15 separate stabbings, with injuries to her face and torso.
The baby’s body was reportedly found wrapped in a towel inside a blue bag, on top of a washing machine in the outbuilding.
Flowers were later left near the police cordon as the local community reacted to the tragedy.
FOUR ADULTS NOW FACE THE COURT
The defendants are:
- Andrea Skopova, 20
- Peter Horvath Jr, 19
- Peter Horvath Sr, 38
- Nina Horvathova, 37
According to prosecutors, Skopova is the baby’s mother.
Peter Horvath Jr is her boyfriend and the son of Peter Horvath Sr and Nina Horvathova.
The baby’s father remains unknown, and prosecutors said Horvath Jr is not believed to be the father.
A FIFTH PERSON HAS ALSO BEEN CHARGED
A 15-year-old girl, who cannot be named because of her age, has also been charged with perverting the course of justice.
She appeared alongside the four adults at Sheffield Crown Court.
Two other women, aged 26 and 37, who were initially arrested on suspicion of murder, remain on bail while the investigation continues.
THE CASE WILL NOW GO TO TRIAL
The four adults and the teenage defendant have been remanded in custody.
At Sheffield Crown Court, Judge Sarah Wright set the trial for April 12, 2027.
The proceedings are expected to last approximately six to seven weeks.
The next hearing is scheduled for October 2, 2026.
The defendants have not been convicted. The allegations against them will be tested through the criminal court process, and they are entitled to a fair trial.
POLICE URGE THE PUBLIC NOT TO SPECULATE
Detective Chief Inspector Tom Woodward of South Yorkshire Police described the investigation as complex and urged people not to speculate or share unverified information online.
Police have also asked the public to respect the legal process as investigators continue examining the circumstances surrounding Baby S’s death.
For now, many questions surrounding the newborn’s final hours remain unanswered.
The next major chapter will come when the defendants return to court — with the full circumstances of Baby S’s death expected to be examined during the 2027 trial.
