NEWBORN BABY FOUND DEAD IN SHEFFIELD — FOUR PEOPLE, INCLUDING HER MOTHER, FACE MURDER CHARGES

A newborn baby girl known only as Baby S has become the focus of a major murder investigation in Sheffield after prosecutors told a court about the circumstances surrounding her death.

Four adults — including the baby’s mother — are facing murder charges.

But with the case now heading toward trial, the full circumstances surrounding Baby S’s death have yet to be determined in court.

FOUR ADULTS FACE MURDER CHARGES

The defendants are:

• Andrea Skopova, 20
• Peter Horvath Jr, 19
• Peter Horvath Sr, 38
• Nina Horvathova, 37

All four are Slovakian nationals and have been charged with murder.

They are also charged with causing or allowing the death of a child and perverting the course of justice, relating to allegations that steps were taken to conceal what had happened.

A 15-year-old girl has separately been charged with perverting the course of justice. She cannot be named because of her age.

THE BABY’S MOTHER IS AMONG THE DEFENDANTS

Prosecutors have identified Andrea Skopova as Baby S’s mother.

The court heard that Skopova had given birth to the baby at a property in Sheffield on August 30.

Peter Horvath Jr is described as Skopova’s boyfriend and is the son of Peter Horvath Sr and Nina Horvathova.

The baby’s father is not known and prosecutors said Horvath Jr is not believed to be the father.

WHAT THE COURT HAS HEARD

The court was told that Baby S suffered 33 injuries, including injuries from 15 separate stabbings.

Prosecutors allege that the newborn was subsequently wrapped in a towel and placed inside a blue bag before being left in an outbuilding.

These are allegations presented as part of the prosecution case and have not been proven at trial.

South Yorkshire Police launched the investigation after officers were called to a property in the Wincobank area following concerns about the welfare of an infant.

 INVESTIGATION REMAINS ONGOING

Two additional women, aged 26 and 37, were arrested on suspicion of murder but remain on bail.

Police have continued enquiries in the area.

South Yorkshire Police have also urged members of the public not to speculate or share information online that could interfere with the legal proceedings.

The Crown Prosecution Service has similarly stressed that all defendants are entitled to a fair trial.

 TRIAL SET FOR 2027

The four adults appeared at Sheffield Crown Court alongside the 15-year-old defendant.

Judge Sarah Wright set the murder trial to begin on April 12, 2027.

The trial is expected to last approximately six to seven weeks.

All four adult defendants were remanded in custody, with the next hearing scheduled for October 2, 2026.

 A CASE THAT HAS SHOCKED THE COMMUNITY

Flowers were left near the police cordon as the Sheffield community reacted to the death of the newborn girl.

For now, many questions remain unanswered.

The allegations against the four adults will ultimately have to be tested through the criminal justice process, where prosecutors must prove their case.

Until then, Andrea Skopova, Peter Horvath Jr, Peter Horvath Sr and Nina Horvathova remain accused — not convicted.

And Baby S’s story will now continue in court.
