FOUR-YEAR-OLD GUS LAMONT VANISHED WITHOUT A TRACE — NEARLY ONE YEAR LATER, HIS FAMILY IS STILL WAITING FOR ANSWERS

Nearly one year after 4-year-old August “Gus” Lamont disappeared from his family’s remote property in South Australia, the little boy has still not been found.

Gus was last seen on September 27, 2025, at Oak Park Station, a remote sheep property near Yunta, roughly 170 miles northeast of Adelaide.

What began as a massive missing-child search has since become a major crime investigation — leaving Gus’s family facing months of uncertainty and unanswered questions.

A CHILD VANISHES FROM A REMOTE PROPERTY

According to police, Gus was playing outside the family property on the afternoon of September 27.

His grandmother later went to call him inside and discovered that he was gone.

The remote location immediately created enormous challenges for investigators. Police, emergency personnel, volunteers, specialist teams, aircraft and search dogs were brought in as authorities searched the surrounding land.

Despite extensive efforts, Gus was not located.

By February 2026, South Australia Police had formally declared his disappearance a major crime.

Police said they had investigated several possibilities, including the possibility that Gus had wandered away, been abducted or that someone known to him had been involved.

However, investigators said they had found no evidence that Gus simply wandered away from the property.

POLICE IDENTIFY A SUSPECT

The investigation took a major turn in February when police announced that a person who had lived at Oak Park Station had become a suspect.

Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke said the individual had stopped cooperating with investigators after police identified what they described as inconsistencies and discrepancies in information provided during the investigation.

Authorities also made an important clarification:

Gus’s parents are not suspects.

Police have repeatedly emphasized that point as the investigation continues.

Investigators also searched the property and seized a vehicle, a motorcycle and electronic devices.

Those items were later subjected to forensic examination.

But by May, police said the results had not produced new lines of inquiry or advanced the investigation.

SEARCHES CONTINUE — BUT GUS IS STILL MISSING

Police have returned to Oak Park Station numerous times since Gus disappeared.

In May 2026, heavy rain created an opportunity for investigators to conduct another detailed search.

A team from Taskforce Horizon and specialist officers examined more than 30 kilometers of creek beds, waterways and washouts, along with bores and wells.

But once again, there was no breakthrough.

Detective Superintendent Fielke described the result as disappointing and warned that the passage of time makes the search increasingly difficult.

The search for Gus has involved hundreds of police and other personnel, including State Emergency Service volunteers, Australian Defence Force personnel, specialist police teams, aircraft, mounted officers, an Indigenous tracker and search dogs.

“EVERY MOMENT WITHOUT HIM IS UNBEARABLE”

For Gus’s parents, the investigation has been an agonizing wait.

In February, Josh and Jess Lamont made an emotional appeal for anyone with information to come forward.

“Our lives have been shattered, and every moment without him is unbearable,” they said in a statement released through South Australia Police.

They pleaded with anyone who might have seen or heard something — no matter how insignificant it might seem — to contact authorities.

Their message was clear: they simply want to bring their little boy home and understand what happened to him.

NEARLY A YEAR, AND STILL NO ANSWERS

As of the latest major update in August 2026, Gus remained missing nearly 11 months after he vanished.

Police have continued to investigate, but there has been no confirmed discovery of Gus or a definitive explanation for what happened to him.

The case remains one of South Australia’s most closely watched missing-child investigations.

For Gus’s family, the waiting continues.
