10-YEAR-OLD DOUGIE FOUND AFTER URGENT SEARCH IN HODDESDON — POLICE CONFIRM BOY IS NOW WITH OFFICERS
A 10-year-old boy who sparked an urgent search in a Hertfordshire community after disappearing from Hoddesdon has been found, police confirmed Thursday.
The boy, known as Dougie, had been missing since the evening of Tuesday, September 15, 2026, prompting police to make an urgent public appeal as concern for his welfare continued to grow.
For nearly two days, officers appealed for information from anyone who may have seen the child or knew where he might be.
Police described Dougie as being of short and stocky build, with dark brown hair. Officers also highlighted one distinctive detail that could have helped members of the public recognize him: he often wears gold jewellery.
POLICE URGED THE PUBLIC TO KEEP LOOKING
Hertfordshire Police said they were becoming increasingly concerned for Dougie’s welfare and asked the public to share the appeal.
The force acknowledged that people in the community were worried and wanted to help, particularly amid heightened attention surrounding recent missing-child cases.
But police stressed that every missing-person investigation is different and that enquiries are tailored to the individual circumstances of each case.
“We remain focused on finding Dougie and are grateful for the public’s continued support,” police said in an appeal reported by local and national media.
Members of the public were urged to contact police immediately with any relevant information rather than relying on speculation circulating online.
Anyone who believed they were with Dougie or had seen him was instructed to call 999, quoting reference ISR 589 of September 16, 2026.
THEN CAME THE UPDATE EVERYONE WAS WAITING FOR
On September 17, Hertfordshire Police issued a new statement confirming that Dougie had been located.
“We are pleased to update that Dougie has now been located and is with police,” the force said, while thanking members of the public who had shared the appeal.
The update brought the urgent search to an end after police had spent the previous two days appealing for information about the missing 10-year-old.
At the time of the initial update, police did not release further details about where Dougie was found or what had happened during the period he was missing.
A COMMUNITY THAT WAITED FOR GOOD NEWS
The disappearance had quickly drawn attention after police asked residents and members of the public to keep an eye out for the distinctive details in the appeal.
For Dougie’s family, however, the public appeal represented something much more personal: a desperate wait for news that the missing 10-year-old had been found.
That wait finally ended with confirmation from police that Dougie was safe and with officers.
Hertfordshire Police thanked everyone who helped circulate the appeal and urged people to continue providing information directly to authorities in missing-person cases.
For now, the most important update is a simple one:
10-year-old Dougie has been found.
