MISSING OHIO TEEN, 17, FOUND ALIVE AT FORMER TEACHER’S HOME AFTER 263 DAYS — POLICE HAD ALREADY VISITED THE HOUSE TWICE

A teenage girl who had been missing for 263 days has been found alive inside the Ohio home of a former teacher, bringing an extraordinary end to a months-long search that had left her family desperate for answers.

The girl, who was 16 when she disappeared and is now 17, vanished on December 2, 2025, after leaving the Huckleberry House, a transitional living facility in Columbus, Ohio.

For nearly nine months, her family and authorities searched for information about where she could be.

The case took a dramatic turn on August 21, 2026, when an officer working with the U.S. Marshals Service went to the Springfield home of Jobe Binkley, 48, according to a probable-cause affidavit filed in Clark County Municipal Court.

Authorities said Binkley acknowledged that the missing teenager was inside his home and called for her to come outside.

She then emerged from the property and was located safely.

POLICE HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN TO THE HOUSE

According to the affidavit, the August 21 visit was not the first time authorities had gone to Binkley’s residence while searching for the teenager.

Police had reportedly visited the home twice before.

On those occasions, investigators allegedly asked to enter the property, but Binkley refused to allow them inside and told officers that the girl was not there.

The affidavit states that Binkley had been informed that the teenager was an active missing person.

Authorities nevertheless did not locate her until the third visit.

The circumstances surrounding why the girl was at Binkley’s residence for an extended period remain under investigation.

FORMER TEACHER FACES CHARGE

Binkley, a former teacher in the Springfield City School District, has been charged with one count of interference with custody, a first-degree misdemeanor.

According to prosecutors’ allegations, he knowingly allowed a missing teenager to stay at his home despite knowing that she had been reported missing.

Binkley has pleaded not guilty and has been released on bond.

A pre-trial hearing is scheduled for September 30, 2026, according to court records.

The current charge does not establish that Binkley committed any additional offense against the teenager.

Authorities have also not publicly established all the circumstances of the teenager’s stay at the home.

FAMILY HAD RAISED CONCERNS

The teenager’s family had continued looking for her throughout the months she was missing.

According to The Sun, relatives had previously expressed concerns about Binkley and urged authorities to investigate his connection to the girl.

The family’s allegations include claims that Binkley had taken advantage of the teenager’s difficult relationship with her mother.

Those claims have not been established in court.

PEOPLE reported that authorities have not publicly clarified the exact nature of the relationship between Binkley and the teenager, including whether he had personally taught her.

The distinction is important because reports have described Binkley as a former science teacher who may have known the teenager through school, but authorities have not publicly confirmed every detail of their relationship.

BINKLEY’S HISTORY WITH THE SCHOOL DISTRICT

Binkley previously worked for Springfield City School District.

Personnel records reviewed by ABC 6 and cited by PEOPLE and The Independent show that he was placed on administrative leave in November 2024 after concerns were raised about his professional interactions with students.

The district later determined those particular allegations were unsubstantiated, according to the reports.

Binkley was placed on administrative leave again in January 2025 and was subsequently fired in February 2025 for violating a district policy involving technology use.

The Springfield City Schools district has said it was not aware of allegations involving the missing teenager until after Binkley was no longer employed by the district.

NEIGHBORS HAD HEARD RUMORS

The discovery also surprised people living near Binkley’s Springfield residence.

Danielle Flint, who lives close to the home, told ABC 6 that there had been rumors circulating online that the missing teenager might be staying at the property.

She said she had looked around the neighborhood hoping to catch sight of the girl but never actually saw her.

The teenager’s disappearance had lasted so long that neighbors and members of the community had begun wondering whether she was still alive.

Her eventual discovery at the property brought an end to months of uncertainty about her whereabouts.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Binkley’s case remains active, and the investigation is continuing.

Legal experts cited in media reports said investigators could examine evidence including communications and electronic devices as they determine what happened during the teenager’s disappearance.

The misdemeanor charge currently filed against Binkley is separate from the broader questions surrounding the case.
