LITTLE GUS LAMONT STILL MISSING NEARLY A YEAR AFTER VANISHING FROM REMOTE AUSTRALIAN PROPERTY

Nearly a year after 4-year-old Gus Lamont disappeared from a remote property in South Australia, investigators are still searching for answers.

Gus was reported missing from Oak Park Station, near Yunta, on September 27, 2025. Despite one of the most extensive missing-child searches in South Australia, there has been no confirmed trace of the little boy.

Police have now conducted 11 major searches of the property and surrounding areas, using specialist teams and a wide range of search methods.

In their latest public update in August 2026, South Australia Police said they had still found no evidence establishing what happened to Gus.

THE DAY GUS DISAPPEARED

Police said Gus was last seen playing outside the family’s homestead at Oak Park Station.

His grandmother reportedly went looking for him after he could no longer be found, and emergency services were called.

The property is in an isolated part of South Australia, around 275 kilometers northeast of Adelaide.

The initial search involved police, State Emergency Service volunteers, defense personnel, aircraft, specialist search teams, police dogs and Indigenous trackers.

Investigators searched the surrounding bushland, buildings, waterways, mine shafts and other areas across the expansive property.

At one point, a footprint discovered roughly 500 meters from the homestead appeared potentially significant, but it was later ruled out as a useful lead.

POLICE CHANGE THE DIRECTION OF THE INVESTIGATION

For months, investigators considered the possibility that Gus may have wandered away from the property.

That theory was later ruled out by police, who said there was no physical or other evidence indicating that the four-year-old had simply walked away.

Authorities also said they had found no evidence supporting an abduction by a stranger.

In February 2026, the investigation was formally declared a major crime.

Police also revealed that a person living at Oak Park Station had withdrawn their cooperation with investigators and was subsequently treated as a suspect.

Authorities stressed that Gus’ parents were not suspects.

A FAMILY MEMBER REMAINS UNDER SCRUTINY

The investigation has placed intense attention on Gus’ extended family.

In May, Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke said one of Gus’ grandparents remained a suspect. Police said they had identified more than 500 people who were in or around Oak Park Station around the time Gus disappeared and were working through those individuals.

Gus’ grandparents have denied involvement through their lawyers and said the family had cooperated with the investigation and wanted nothing more than to find the boy.

The fact that a family member is a suspect does not mean that person has been charged with a crime.

No one has been convicted in connection with Gus’ disappearance.

SEARCHES HAVE PRODUCED NO ANSWER

Investigators have repeatedly returned to Oak Park Station.

Search teams have examined mine shafts, buildings, dams, surrounding bushland and other locations. Police have also seized and forensically examined items including a vehicle, motorcycle and electronic devices.

However, the testing did not produce evidence that provided investigators with a new line of inquiry.

By August, police said 11 large-scale searches had been carried out over the previous year.

Despite the enormous effort, there was still no confirmed evidence explaining where Gus went or what happened to him.

“WE WON’T GIVE UP”

The case has continued to attract widespread public attention, with hundreds of pieces of information submitted to police.

Authorities have repeatedly thanked members of the public who provided information and said every credible lead is being assessed.

Gus’ parents have also continued to appeal for anyone who knows something about their son’s disappearance to come forward.

For the family, the uncertainty has made an already devastating situation even harder.

Almost one year after Gus vanished, the central question remains unanswered:

Where is little Gus Lamont, and what happened to him?

South Australia Police have said Task Force Horizon will continue investigating until the circumstances surrounding his disappearance are resolved.
