POLICE CONFIRM HEARTBREAKING DISCOVERY IN CASE OF MISSING 3-YEAR-OLD NOAH WOODS

Police have confirmed the heartbreaking identification of the body found in a Suffolk pond following the desperate search for missing three-year-old Noah Woods.

Noah disappeared in Brantham, Suffolk, on Tuesday, September 15, after becoming separated from a relative during a visit to the playground at Merriam Close.

Suffolk Police said Noah was seen on CCTV at around 2:37pm before he was reported to have run down an alleyway beside the playground towards a nearby new-build housing estate and Decoy Pond.

A major search operation was launched almost immediately, involving specialist police officers, search dogs, helicopters, HM Coastguard, Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service, Suffolk Lowland Search and Rescue and the Metropolitan Police Dive Team.

Around 1,300 members of the public also joined the search, with volunteers travelling from across the country to help officers and emergency crews search the village and surrounding areas.

BODY RECOVERED FROM DECOY POND

On Wednesday afternoon, September 16, specialist divers from the Metropolitan Police recovered the body of a child from Decoy Pond, a fishing lake close to the playground where Noah was last seen.

At the time, formal identification had not yet been completed, but Noah’s family had already been informed of the discovery.

Police later confirmed that the child was Noah Woods, aged three.

Suffolk Police said Noah’s death is not being treated as suspicious, although officers still have a number of enquiries to complete before submitting a file to the coroner.

The force has therefore not announced a criminal explanation for Noah’s death.

A DESPERATE SEARCH THAT BROUGHT A COMMUNITY TOGETHER

The search for Noah had grown into an extraordinary community effort.

Hundreds of volunteers began searching the village from early Wednesday morning, while specialist teams examined the surrounding countryside, roads, railway areas and waterways.

Police also reviewed CCTV and doorbell footage and appealed to residents to check gardens, sheds, outbuildings and other places where a young child might have gone.

The operation was supported by air searches, police dogs and specialist search teams.

Before the tragic discovery, Noah’s father, Rhys Woods, made an emotional appeal for the search to continue.

He thanked emergency services and members of the public who had travelled to Brantham to help find his son and pleaded with volunteers not to give up hope.

The enormous response continued until police confirmed that a child’s body had been recovered from the pond.

POLICE THANK VOLUNTEERS

Superintendent Tom Pearse of Suffolk Police praised the extraordinary response from members of the public.

He said the family and emergency services had been overwhelmed by the number of people who had turned out to help.

Following the discovery, police urged members of the public to give Noah’s family time, space and privacy as they cope with their loss.

The formal identification has now been completed, but the investigation is not yet finished.

Police said further enquiries will be carried out before a file is submitted to the coroner, who will ultimately consider the circumstances surrounding Noah’s death.

For the Brantham community, the devastating outcome came after more than a thousand people had come together in the hope of bringing the little boy home safely.

The search for Noah may have ended, but the questions surrounding his final hours will now form part of the coroner’s process.
