LITTLE GUS VANISHED FROM AN AUSTRALIAN OUTBACK PROPERTY — ONE YEAR LATER, THERE ARE STILL NO ANSWERS

Almost one year after four-year-old Gus Lamont disappeared from his family’s remote sheep station in South Australia, investigators are still searching for answers — but the little boy has never been found.

Gus, also known as Angus, disappeared from Oak Park Station near Yunta on September 27, 2025.

He was just four years old.

On the afternoon he vanished, Gus had been playing outside the family property. His grandmother later went to call him inside and discovered that he was no longer there.

What followed became one of the largest and most intensive missing-child searches in South Australian history.

A CHILD VANISHED WITHOUT LEAVING A TRACE

Gus was reportedly wearing a grey sun hat, a blue Minions shirt and small boots when he disappeared.

Despite extensive searches across the vast outback property, investigators found none of the clothing or other items that might have helped explain where he went.

Police searched surrounding land, waterways, structures and mine shafts. Specialist teams, aircraft, drones, police dogs, mounted officers, emergency-service volunteers, Indigenous trackers and Australian Defence Force personnel were involved in the operation.

At one stage, investigators drained dams and examined multiple underground shafts as they attempted to locate any sign of the missing boy.

Yet Gus remained missing.

POLICE CHANGED THE DIRECTION OF THE INVESTIGATION

For months, police treated the case as a missing-person investigation.

That changed dramatically in February 2026.

South Australia Police announced that Gus’s disappearance had been declared a major crime and revealed that investigators had identified a suspect — someone who lived at Oak Park Station.

Police stressed that Gus’s parents were not suspects.

Investigators also said they had ruled out the initial theory that Gus simply wandered away from the property. Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke said there was no physical or other evidence supporting that explanation.

SEARCHES CONTINUED — BUT NO CLUES EMERGED

Police have repeatedly returned to Oak Park Station in the months since Gus disappeared.

In May, investigators conducted another three-day search after heavy rainfall created new opportunities to examine waterways, creek beds and other areas where changing ground conditions might have revealed previously hidden evidence.

More than 30 kilometres of waterways were searched during that operation.

But investigators found no new evidence connected to Gus’s disappearance.

Police said further aerial searches would be conducted, potentially covering an area extending up to 15 kilometres from the homestead.

More than 500 people who were in or around Oak Park Station around the time Gus disappeared have also been identified and contacted by investigators.

HIS FAMILY CONTINUES TO WAIT

Gus’s parents, Josh and Jess, have repeatedly appealed to anyone who may know something to come forward.

In February, they released a new photograph and video of their son and described their lives as shattered by his disappearance.

They urged anyone who had seen or heard anything — even something that might initially appear insignificant — to contact police.

“All we want is to bring Gus home and understand what happened to our beautiful boy,” they said in a statement released through South Australia Police.

The family has continued to face enormous uncertainty as the investigation stretches on.

NO ARRESTS OR CHARGES

Despite the major-crime investigation and the identification of a suspect, no arrests or charges have been announced in connection with Gus’s disappearance.

Police said in May that one of Gus’s grandparents remained a suspect, while no other suspects or persons of interest had been identified at that time. The grandparent has not been charged in relation to Gus’s disappearance.

That distinction remains important as investigators continue to examine the evidence.

The case has generated enormous public interest, but there has still been no confirmed explanation for what happened to the four-year-old.

ALMOST A YEAR WITHOUT AN ANSWER

Gus’s disappearance has now stretched across almost an entire year.

The remote landscape around Oak Park Station has been searched repeatedly, specialist resources have been deployed and hundreds of pieces of information have been assessed.

Still, there is no confirmed location for Gus and no publicly established account of what happened to him.

For his parents and family, the central hope remains unchanged: that someone, somewhere, has information that could finally explain where their little boy went.

And nearly a year after Gus vanished, the question remains the same:

Where is Little Gus Lamont?
