CHRISTA PIKE FACES FINAL DAYS ON DEATH ROW AS CLEMENCY FIGHT INTENSIFIES

Christa Pike is approaching a scheduled execution in Tennessee, nearly three decades after she was sentenced to death for the 1995 killing of fellow Job Corps student Colleen Slemmer.

Pike, now 50, is scheduled to be executed by lethal injection at 10 a.m. on September 30, 2026, at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville.

She is currently the only woman on Tennessee’s death row. If the execution proceeds, she would become the first woman executed by the state in more than 200 years.

With the execution date approaching, Pike’s legal team is making a final push for clemency while continuing to challenge aspects of Tennessee’s execution process.

A 226-PAGE PLEA FOR CLEMENCY

Pike’s attorneys have submitted a 226-page clemency petition to Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee, asking him to commute her death sentence to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.

Under Tennessee law, the governor has the authority to grant clemency.

As of the latest reports, Lee had not announced a decision on Pike’s petition.

The petition focuses heavily on Pike’s childhood and mental-health history.

Her attorneys argue that the circumstances surrounding her upbringing were not adequately presented to the jury that sentenced her to death in the 1990s.

According to the clemency filing and supporting accounts, Pike experienced repeated sexual abuse, physical abuse and neglect as a child.

Her lawyers also point to diagnoses of bipolar disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder that were made after she entered prison.

The defense argues that those factors should be considered when assessing the punishment imposed on a person who was only 18 at the time of the crime.
