A newborn baby girl was found dead at a property in Sheffield after police were called over concerns for her safety.

What investigators discovered inside the home would lead to one of the most disturbing cases to reach the city’s courts — and leave a family facing a major murder trial.

The baby, known only as “Baby S,” was found at a property in Holywell Heights, Wincobank, Sheffield, on the morning of Sunday, August 30.

Four adults have since been charged with her murder.

But the investigation has raised questions about what happened in the hours before police arrived.

POLICE WERE CALLED OVER CONCERNS FOR A BABY

According to prosecutors, Baby S was born in the early hours of August 30 at an address in Sheffield.

Her mother, Andrea Skopova, 20, had reportedly given birth at 37 weeks before later going to hospital.

Medical staff alerted police shortly after 5 a.m. after concerns were raised about the safety of an infant.

Officers went to the address — but the baby was not there.

They then searched another property in Holywell Heights.

That was where Baby S was found.

Prosecutors told Sheffield Magistrates’ Court that the newborn had been wrapped in a towel and placed inside a blue bag on top of a washing machine in an outhouse.

THE COURT HEARD A DISTURBING ACCOUNT

The court was told that Baby S had suffered 33 wounds from 15 separate stabbings.

Prosecutors said the injuries were to the baby’s face and torso, including the front and back of her body.

A doctor reportedly confirmed that the baby was alive when the injuries were inflicted, according to evidence presented in court.

Police have also recovered a potential weapon and CCTV footage as part of the investigation.

Authorities have not publicly established every detail of what happened inside the property before officers arrived.

That remains a central part of the ongoing investigation.
