A routine morning workout turned into an unimaginable tragedy for the family of Tulsa football assistant coach John Beckley when his pregnant wife, Kayla Saager-Beckley, was found unresponsive only minutes after exercising at home.

Kayla, a 30-year-old former college soccer standout who was expecting the couple’s daughter, Sawyer, died following what was described as a sudden medical emergency.

The loss has shaken not only her family but also the football program where her husband coaches and the college soccer community that still remembers the impact she made as an athlete.

A Morning That Changed Everything

Details of Kayla’s final morning were shared publicly by Tulsa head football coach Tre Lamb.

According to Lamb, the emergency happened at approximately 7 a.m. on a Wednesday morning.

Kayla had been working out when something suddenly went wrong. Roughly 10 minutes later, she was found unresponsive.

No cause of death has yet been publicly announced.

What made the tragedy even more devastating was that Kayla was pregnant. She and John were expecting a baby girl they had already named Sawyer.
