TOM JONES DROPPED FROM THE VOICE UK AS ITV UNVEILS SHOCK NEW LINE-UP AND ‘LOCKDOWN’ BUTTON

THE 86-YEAR-OLD MUSIC LEGEND WILL NO LONGER BE A FULL-TIME COACH AS THE SHOW UNDERGOES ITS BIGGEST SHAKE-UP IN YEARS

For more than a decade, Sir Tom Jones has been one of the defining faces of The Voice UK.

His deep voice, sharp humour and unmistakable presence became part of the programme’s identity after he joined the show when it launched in 2012.

But now, one of British television’s most familiar music figures is stepping away from the famous red chair.

ITV has confirmed a dramatic new line-up for Series 15 of The Voice UK, with Tom Jones, Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones leaving the coaching panel.

In their place will be Cheryl and rapper Aitch, who will join returning coaches Kelly Rowland and will.i.am.

The programme will also have two new hosts, with Alesha Dixon and Stacey Solomon taking over from Emma Willis.

Series 15 is scheduled to air in 2027.

TOM JONES’ 13-YEAR JOURNEY COMES TO AN END

Sir Tom Jones first appeared on The Voice UK in 2012 as one of the programme’s original coaches.

Although he was absent from Series 5, he returned to the show in 2017 and remained a regular presence on the coaching panel.

By the time of his departure, he had appeared in 13 of the show’s 14 seasons.

For viewers, his chair had become almost as recognisable as the show’s famous red stage.

ITV described him as an “irreplaceable” part of the programme and thanked him for the years of memorable moments he had given both audiences and contestants.

But Tom has indicated that leaving was not his decision.

Reports following the announcement said the singer had been offered a smaller role rather than remaining a full-time coach.

Tom also publicly discussed the circumstances surrounding his departure, saying the decision had been made by ITV.

The broadcaster, meanwhile, has framed the changes as a major refresh of the programme rather than simply Tom’s departure.

CHERYL TAKES OVER HIS RED CHAIR

One of the biggest changes will see Cheryl return to a major television talent show.

The former Girls Aloud singer and The X Factor judge will join the coaching panel for the first time on The Voice UK.

She will be joined by Manchester rapper Aitch, who is also making his debut as a coach.

They will sit alongside Kelly Rowland, who is returning for her second series, and long-standing coach will.i.am.

The new panel means that none of the McFly coaching duo, Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones, will return either.

Their departure marks another major change after the pair shared a chair during the previous series.

ALESHA DIXON AND STACEY SOLOMON TAKE OVER

The changes do not stop at the red chairs.

Long-time presenter Emma Willis is also leaving the programme.

She will be replaced by Alesha Dixon and Stacey Solomon, who will jointly host Series 15.

ITV said both presenters would take the reins when the show returns in 2027.

It means viewers will see a completely different presenting team alongside a largely new coaching panel.

The only coaches remaining from the current line-up will be will.i.am and Kelly Rowland.

AND THEN CAME THE “LOCKDOWN BUTTON”

Just as fans were absorbing the new line-up, another major change emerged.

The Voice UK is reportedly introducing a new feature called the “Lockdown Button” for the next series.

The feature is expected to replace the Rewind Button, which was introduced during the current series.

According to reporting from The Sun and TV Zone, the new button would come into play when a contestant receives a four-chair turn.

Under the reported format, one coach could press the Lockdown Button and immediately secure the singer for their team.

That would remove one of the familiar moments in the competition — the contestant listening to the coaches’ pitches before choosing which team to join.

Instead, the decision could effectively be taken away from the singer once the button is used.

It would create a completely different kind of tension during the Blind Auditions.

THE END OF THE FAMILIAR FOUR-CHAIR MOMENT?

Traditionally, a four-chair turn has been one of the most dramatic moments on The Voice.

All four coaches turn around.

The contestant becomes the centre of attention.

Each coach then attempts to convince the singer to join their team.
