“I CAN’T GO THROUGH THIS ANYMORE…” — CORONATION STREET STAR TRACY SHAW BREAKS DOWN AHEAD OF CHEMOTHERAPY

Former Coronation Street star Tracy Shaw broke down in tears as she opened up about the fear and uncertainty surrounding her breast cancer diagnosis, admitting she was struggling to face the treatment journey ahead.

The actress, best known for playing Maxine Peacock on the long-running British soap, became emotional while speaking to followers about preparing to begin chemotherapy.

“I can’t go through this anymore,” Shaw said during the emotional update, acknowledging how overwhelming the situation had become even before treatment had fully begun.

“I’VE NOT EVEN STARTED MY JOURNEY”

Shaw explained that every morning now brought the reality of her diagnosis back into focus.

She described the constant uncertainty as one of the hardest parts of the experience, saying she would wake up knowing that the cancer had not simply disappeared.

The actress also revealed how ordinary physical sensations had become a source of fear.

“When I wake up and I’ve got really bad headaches, or I can feel another twinge in my other boob, I just think, ‘Oh, it’s moving!’” she said.

Shaw acknowledged that the fear could become overwhelming, even though she normally tried to carry on with everyday life.

She described the road ahead as “a long road” — or even “a mountain.”

PART OF HER WANTED TREATMENT TO BEGIN

Despite her fear, Shaw also admitted that part of her was eager to start chemotherapy.

She wanted to know that treatment was beginning to work and that the tumors were being reduced.

“50 per cent of me want to get this going,” she said, explaining that she wanted to know that the cancer was “being dealt with.”

At the time of the emotional video, Shaw said she had been told chemotherapy would begin the following week.

She had already visited the chemotherapy ward for tests and met other patients who were preparing to begin treatment alongside her.

Her openness offered followers a glimpse into the emotional side of facing cancer — not only the medical appointments and treatment, but also the fear that can accompany every new symptom or sensation.

SHAW SHARED HER JOURNEY OPENLY

Shaw announced her breast cancer diagnosis in April 2026 after discovering a lump.

Since then, she has regularly shared updates with followers about her treatment, including difficult moments and the physical effects of chemotherapy.

She also cut her hair into a shorter style and donated her locks to the Little Princess Trust, which provides wigs for children and young people experiencing hair loss from cancer treatment.

In the months that followed, Shaw continued chemotherapy and spoke publicly about difficult side effects, including periods when she needed hospital treatment. By August, she was approaching her final chemotherapy session and was also sharing more positive moments with her followers.

More recently, in September, Shaw revealed that she had missed a hospital cancer appointment after spending around 45 minutes trying unsuccessfully to find a parking space. She said the experience caused “horrendous” anxiety, illustrating how emotionally difficult the treatment journey remained even months after it began.

REMEMBERED AS MAXINE PEACOCK

Shaw became widely known for playing Maxine Peacock on Coronation Street from 1995 to 2003.

Her character was eventually killed in one of the soap’s most memorable storylines involving serial killer Richard Hillman.

Away from the famous role, Shaw has continued to speak candidly about her life, using her social-media platforms to document the realities of her cancer treatment.

For the actress, the journey has brought fear, exhaustion and uncertainty — but also a determination to keep moving forward.

And as she described it herself, the road ahead may feel like a mountain.

But she has continued climbing it, one step at a time.
