CHAD LOWE’S 13-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER FIONA DIED BY SUICIDE — FAMILY REMEMBERS HER AS “THE LIGHT OF OUR LIVES”
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has ruled that Fiona Hepler Lowe, the 13-year-old daughter of actor Chad Lowe and producer Kim Painter, died by suicide.
Fiona died on September 29 at a local hospital, according to medical examiner records reported by Page Six and PEOPLE. She was just 13 years old.
The news comes days after her family publicly announced her death, describing Fiona as a beloved daughter and sister whose loss has devastated the entire family.
“We are deeply heartbroken by the loss of our beloved Fiona,” Chad Lowe and Kim Painter said in a statement.
They remembered their daughter as “a loving young girl who was smart, creative and loved to dance.”
“She was adored by her sisters and she was deeply loved by her parents,” they said. “In fact, she was the light of our lives.”
Fiona was the middle of the couple’s three daughters. She is survived by her older sister, Mabel, 17, and younger sister, Nixie, 10.
Her family has asked for prayers and privacy as they cope with the loss.
The family also included a message encouraging anyone struggling with mental health to seek help through the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
A GIRL WHO LOVED TO DANCE
Before the heartbreaking news, Chad Lowe had occasionally shared glimpses of his daughter’s life.
When Fiona turned 13 in November 2025, he celebrated the milestone publicly, writing about how proud he was of his daughter and encouraging her to “keep dancing through life.”
The family described Fiona as smart, creative and kind, with a particular love of dance.
Her death has also affected the school community where she was a student. Page Six reported that Fiona’s middle school informed parents and students of her death and offered support to the community.
THE FAMILY HAD ALREADY FACED A DIFFICULT YEAR
Fiona’s death comes after another devastating experience for the Lowe family.
In January 2025, Chad Lowe and his family lost their Pacific Palisades home during the wildfires that swept through the Los Angeles area.
Chad later spoke about how his daughters coped with the loss of their home, describing being their father as one of the greatest privileges of his life.
Now, the family is facing another loss that they have described as devastating.
Fiona’s grandfather, Charles Lowe, also shared a tribute following her death, writing: “Rest in peace, sweet Fiona.”
A FAMILY ASKING FOR PRIVACY
Chad Lowe, the younger brother of actor Rob Lowe, and Kim Painter have not publicly discussed the circumstances surrounding Fiona’s death beyond the family statement and their request for privacy.
The medical examiner’s ruling now provides the official manner of death, while the family continues to grieve privately.
For those who knew Fiona, however, her parents want her remembered not for the circumstances of her death, but for the person she was — a young girl who loved to dance, was deeply loved by her family and was, in their words, “the light of our lives.”
Her life lasted only 13 years, but the family says the love she brought into their home will remain with them.
