“A BEAUTIFUL, CARING AND LOVING BOY” — FAMILY REMEMBERS 17-YEAR-OLD XAVIER NUNGARARY

A Los Angeles high school community is grieving the loss of 17-year-old Xavier Nungarary, a student whose family remembers him as a “beautiful, caring, and loving boy.”

Xavier, a senior at Benjamin Franklin High School in Highland Park, died after a tragic incident on the school campus on Wednesday, October 1, 2026.

His death came shortly after an altercation involving another student, leaving classmates, teachers and his family struggling to understand what happened.

Following Xavier’s death, his family released photographs of the teenager as they began making arrangements for his funeral.

A fundraising campaign was also launched to help the family with funeral expenses and the financial burden that followed his sudden death.

In a message shared with supporters, the family described Xavier as someone who brought kindness and love to the people around him.

They said losing a child was an unimaginable pain and that Xavier’s passing had left “a deep void” in the lives of everyone who knew and loved him.

Family members and loved ones gathered for a memorial in his honor on Thursday.

 WHAT HAPPENED AT THE SCHOOL?

Videos circulating online appear to show Xavier involved in an altercation with another student inside a classroom.

According to reports, another student repeatedly struck Xavier while a teacher attempted to intervene.

After the confrontation, Xavier left the classroom and ran through an outdoor hallway on an upper floor of the school.

He subsequently went over a fourth-floor railing and suffered fatal injuries.

Emergency personnel responded to the school, and Xavier was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The footage has since drawn widespread attention online, but authorities have cautioned that the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.

Xavier’s stepmother told NBC Los Angeles that she believed he had experienced bullying at school over a period of time.

She said Xavier had been hesitant to speak up because he was afraid that he might be punished rather than the students who were bullying him.

Those comments have added another painful dimension to the tragedy as investigators examine what happened immediately before Xavier’s death.

A parent whose daughter knew Xavier also remembered him as a quiet and very nice teenager.

Some students who witnessed the incident were reportedly deeply shaken, with the school later offering mental-health support and other resources to students affected by what they had seen.

 POLICE INVESTIGATION CONTINUES

The Los Angeles Police Department is aware of videos showing the altercation that occurred before Xavier’s death.

Police have reportedly said there is no evidence at this stage that the death was caused by foul play, while investigators continue examining the circumstances surrounding the incident.

No formal criminal charges against the other student involved had been announced in the reports available at the time of publication.

That means many questions remain about what led to the confrontation and what happened in the moments afterward.

 SCHOOL OFFERS SUPPORT TO STUDENTS

Benjamin Franklin High School faced a difficult return to classes following the tragedy.

Students were offered mental-health resources and support as the school community tried to process Xavier’s death.

Some parents also expressed concern that the school reopened so quickly after the incident, saying students and families needed more time to grieve.

The tragedy has prompted renewed discussion among parents and students about bullying, school safety and whether young people feel comfortable reporting problems before situations escalate.

 REMEMBERING XAVIER

Behind the heartbreaking headlines, Xavier was a 17-year-old son, student and friend whose family is now left to remember the life he had been building.

His loved ones want people to remember more than the final moments of his life.

They remember a young man who was caring, loving and deeply valued by the people around him.

For his family, the most painful part of the tragedy is knowing that Xavier had so much more life ahead of him.

As investigators continue working to establish the full circumstances, those who knew him are left mourning a teenager whose life ended far too soon.
