THE VOICE UK HITS A RECORD LOW — VIEWERS TUNE OUT AS TOM JONES ERA COMES TO AN END

Fewer than 1.5 million viewers watched the latest episode as ITV prepares to completely overhaul the long-running talent show for 2027.

The Voice UK has reportedly hit a new ratings low, with fewer than 1.5 million viewers tuning in for the latest episode of the ITV singing competition.

The figure was reported as the show’s lowest audience yet, immediately putting the spotlight on the programme at a crucial moment — just weeks after ITV confirmed that longtime coach Sir Tom Jones would not return for the next series.

But while the timing has sparked plenty of discussion among fans, the ratings figure cannot automatically be attributed to Tom Jones’ departure.

The latest episode aired at around 9 p.m., following an extended Strictly Come Dancing broadcast, meaning the unusual scheduling may also have affected the audience size.

The ratings news arrives as The Voice UK prepares for one of the biggest changes in its history.

ITV has confirmed a completely revamped coaching panel for Series 15, which is scheduled to air in 2027.

Longtime coach Tom Jones will be leaving the programme, alongside McFly stars Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones.

Returning coach will.i.am will remain on the panel, joined by Kelly Rowland, who returns for her second series.

They will be joined by two new coaches: Cheryl and rapper Aitch.

The presenting team is changing too.

Alesha Dixon and Stacey Solomon will take over hosting duties for the new series.

ITV said it wanted to thank Sir Tom Jones for his years on the programme and described him as “irreplaceable” in its announcement of the new lineup.

The changes became even more controversial after Tom Jones publicly addressed his departure.

The 86-year-old singer said he did not want to leave the programme and that he loved The Voice and appreciated its audience.

Jones said ITV had made the decision and told him that the reason involved financial difficulties with insurance.

He also said he had been offered a much-reduced role rather than continuing as a full-time coach — an arrangement he was not happy with.

Jones had been one of the defining faces of the British version of The Voice, appearing as a coach from the show’s launch in 2012, apart from one season away from the panel.

His departure therefore represents a major change for viewers who have associated his presence with the programme for more than a decade.

FANS ARE ASKING FOR TOM BACK

News of Jones’ departure prompted strong reactions from fans online, with some viewers calling for the legendary singer to return.

The latest ratings figure has added another layer to that discussion.

With fewer than 1.5 million people reportedly watching the latest episode, questions are now being raised about how audiences will respond to the show’s new direction.

However, the viewing figure alone does not establish that viewers have abandoned the programme because Jones is leaving.

The unusual broadcast time is an important factor, and the new coaching lineup will not even appear until the 2027 series.

A NEW ERA FOR THE VOICE UK

For ITV, the upcoming series represents a fresh chapter.

Cheryl and Aitch will make their coaching debuts, while Kelly Rowland and will.i.am provide continuity from the current lineup.

Behind the scenes, the show will also have a new presenting partnership, with Stacey Solomon and Alesha Dixon taking over from Emma Willis.

ITV has described the new lineup as a way of bringing fresh energy to the competition while continuing the show’s search for Britain’s next big vocal talent.

The challenge now will be whether the revamped format can reconnect with audiences when it returns in 2027.

THE TOM JONES QUESTION

For now, one thing is certain: The Voice UK is entering an unfamiliar era.

Tom Jones is leaving.

Several other familiar faces are also departing.

A completely different coaching panel is coming.

And the show’s latest reported audience figure has given fans plenty to talk about.

Whether the ratings dip is a temporary result of scheduling or part of a wider change in audience interest remains to be seen.

But one question is already dominating the conversation among longtime viewers:

Will fans miss Tom Jones enough to want him back?

And when the new coaches finally take their seats in the famous red chairs, millions will be watching to see whether The Voice UK can begin its next chapter with a stronger voice.
