FOUR-YEAR-OLD BOY VANISHED FROM HIS REMOTE FAMILY HOME — MONTHS LATER, POLICE IDENTIFIED A SUSPECT

GUS LAMONT DISAPPEARED WITHOUT A TRACE — AND THE INVESTIGATION HAS NOW TAKEN A DISTURBING TURN

Four-year-old August “Gus” Lamont disappeared from his family’s remote sheep station in South Australia on September 27, 2025.

What began as a massive search for a child who may have wandered into the Australian outback has since become a major crime investigation, with police focusing on someone who was known to Gus and lived at the property.

Gus was last seen playing outside at Oak Park Station, roughly 300 kilometres northeast of Adelaide. When his grandmother went outside to call him in, he was gone.

Despite an enormous search operation involving police, emergency crews, defence personnel, Indigenous trackers, volunteers, aircraft, drones, dogs and other specialist resources, Gus has never been found.

POLICE RULED OUT SOME THEORIES — AND FOCUSED ON SOMEONE KNOWN TO GUS

In February 2026, South Australia Police declared Gus’s disappearance a major crime.

Investigators said a person who had been living at Oak Park Station had withdrawn their cooperation with police after investigators identified what they described as “inconsistencies and discrepancies” in information provided during the investigation.

That person was then considered a suspect.

Police stressed that Gus’s parents were not suspects. Investigators also said they had found no evidence suggesting the boy had simply wandered away or had been abducted by an unknown person.

SEARCHES COVERED A VAST OUTBACK AREA

The search for Gus became one of South Australia’s largest missing-person operations.

Authorities searched the enormous property and surrounding areas, including three dams and six mine shafts, while aerial teams surveyed vast sections of the remote landscape.

Police said hundreds of personnel and volunteers were involved, including 163 South Australian Police members and 230 additional resources from other organisations.

A single footprint discovered roughly 500 metres from the property was among the physical clues reported during the investigation.

But months of searching failed to locate Gus.

💔 HIS PARENTS HAVE CONTINUED TO PLEAD FOR ANSWERS

Gus’s parents, Josh and Jess Lamont, have repeatedly appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

In February, they described their lives as shattered and said every moment without their little boy was unbearable.

They urged anyone who knew something — even something that seemed insignificant — to speak with police.

A NEW SEARCH BROUGHT NO BREAKTHROUGH

In May 2026, police conducted another intensive three-day search at Oak Park Station.

But investigators said they found no new evidence that helped locate Gus.

Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke confirmed that one of Gus’s grandparents remained a suspect and said no other suspects or persons of interest had been identified at that stage.

Police have continued to investigate multiple possibilities surrounding Gus’s disappearance, while saying the case remains active.
