A 53-year-old Washington, D.C. mother disappeared days after talking with her sister about Christmas plans. Now her family is desperate for answers.

A Washington, D.C. mother disappeared without warning — and the details left behind at her home are raising urgent questions.

Antoinette Forbes, 53, has been missing since Friday, Sept. 4, 2026, after she was last seen in the 3200 block of Nebraska Avenue NW, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

Nearly a week later, her family is still waiting for answers.

And one detail has become especially unsettling:

Her car was still outside. Her dog was still inside. And her phone, keys, purse and wallet were reportedly left at home.

THE LAST CONVERSATION

Antoinette’s sister, Aileen Forbes, said the two women last spoke on the morning of Saturday, Sept. 5.

They were talking about something completely ordinary — Christmas plans.

Then Antoinette stopped responding.

Aileen said the sudden silence was completely unlike her sister.

The two were extremely close, with Aileen describing them as practically inseparable.

“There is no way that she would just leave,” Aileen said, according to PEOPLE.

When Aileen later told her sister that she had tested positive for COVID, Antoinette still did not respond.

That was when the family became increasingly alarmed.

THEN A FRIEND CHECKED THE HOUSE

Concerned, a friend went to Antoinette’s home to check on her.

What they reportedly found made the situation even more confusing.

Antoinette wasn’t there.

But her keys, phones, purse and wallet were inside, along with her dog.

Her car was also reportedly parked outside the home.

For a family already struggling to understand why a devoted mother would suddenly disappear, the discovery raised even more questions.

HER FAMILY SAYS SHE WOULD NEVER SIMPLY WALK AWAY

Antoinette is a single mother to a 10-year-old son, whom her sister described as her sister’s “world.”

Aileen said the family is in shock because Antoinette was known as responsible and dependable.

“It’s unreal,” Aileen said, according to PEOPLE.

Her family has publicly appealed for help in finding her and bringing her home safely.

POLICE ARE STILL INVESTIGATING

The Metropolitan Police Department has been actively investigating the disappearance.

Investigators have canvassed the neighborhood and spoken with residents as they try to determine what happened after Antoinette was last seen.

As of the latest report, police have not announced that Antoinette has been located and have not publicly confirmed what caused her disappearance.

Authorities describe Antoinette as approximately 5 feet 2 inches tall and 115 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Her clothing at the time she disappeared was not known.
