OVERCOMING ADVERSITY: THE RESILIENT JOURNEY OF ALEEMA ALI
At just 12 years old, Aleema Ali suffered devastating burns covering 55 percent of her body following a horrific accident in December 2016. While at home for Christmas, her mother applied Full Marks Solution to treat head lice. Unaware of the product’s extreme flammability before washing, Aleema walked into the kitchen near an open flame. Her hair ignited instantly, engulfing her upper body in flames.

Given only a 10 percent chance of survival, Aleema spent weeks in an medically induced coma and underwent nine months of intensive hospital care. Her extensive injuries affected her face, neck, chest, and limbs, ultimately leading to the amputation of seven fingers. Rebuilding her life required relearning basic motor functions, including walking, talking, and eating, alongside dozens of complex surgeries, skin grafts, and foot-to-hand reconstructive procedures.
Instead of concealing her visible scars, Aleema chose empowerment. Returning to school brought public stares, but she transformed her experience into advocacy. She built a massive social media presence sharing beauty content and daily routines, shedding light on the long-term realities of burn recovery.

As an ambassador for The Scar Free Foundation, Aleema now actively raises funds and awareness for advanced burn care and scar prevention research. Her journey serves as a vital reminder of flame safety with topical treatments and stands as a powerful testament to human resilience in the face of profound tragedy.
