MOM ACCUSED OF KILLING 2-YEAR-OLD SON HIRES CASEY ANTHONY’S FORMER LAWYER AFTER FOLLOWING LINDSAY CLANCY TRIAL

An Illinois mother accused of killing her 2-year-old son has hired Andrea Lyon, the attorney who previously represented Casey Anthony, as her defense team prepares for the case to move forward.

Corie Walsh, 40, is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of her son, Barrett Walsh, at the family’s home in Frankfort, Illinois, on September 1, 2026.

The case has drawn additional attention because investigators learned that Walsh had recently become deeply interested in the highly publicized Lindsay Clancy murder trial in Massachusetts.

WITNESSES SAID WALSH WAS FOLLOWING THE CLANCY CASE

According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, witnesses told investigators that Walsh had become “very invested” in the Clancy case.

Walsh was allegedly discussing the trial in a group chat with friends only hours before her son was found, while jurors in Massachusetts were still deliberating over Clancy’s case.

Prosecutors have pointed to those messages as part of the evidence they are presenting in seeking to keep Walsh in custody.

However, Walsh’s attorneys have strongly rejected suggestions that her interest in the Clancy trial meant her alleged actions were connected to that case.

Attorney Andrea Lyon called speculation that Walsh’s case was a copycat situation “baseless and cruel.”

THE CASE AGAINST CORIE WALSH

Police were called to Walsh’s Frankfort home on September 1 after receiving a report involving an injured child.

According to court documents, a neighbor found Barrett in the basement and began performing CPR before emergency responders arrived.

The boy was later pronounced dead.

Investigators also found Walsh upstairs, where authorities said she had been attempting to harm herself.

Prosecutors have subsequently charged Walsh with three counts of first-degree murder under different legal theories. She has denied pretrial release and remains in custody pending further proceedings.

Walsh’s defense has indicated that her mental state will be a significant issue in the case. Her attorneys have described her as having experienced a psychotic episode, while prosecutors have focused on evidence they say could demonstrate awareness and intent.

ANDREA LYON’S CONNECTION TO CASEY ANTHONY

Lyon brings extensive experience in high-profile criminal cases.

She was part of Casey Anthony’s defense team when Anthony faced charges in the 2010 case involving the death of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee Anthony.

Lyon later left that defense team, and Anthony was ultimately represented at trial by attorney Jose Baez.

Anthony was acquitted in 2011 of murder, aggravated manslaughter and aggravated child abuse charges, although she was convicted of lying to law enforcement.

Lyon is now representing Walsh alongside Robert Kerr, her partner at the Chicago law firm Lyon & Kerr.

THE LINDSAY CLANCY CASE REMAINS UNRESOLVED

The Clancy trial that Walsh had reportedly been following also ended without a verdict.

On September 4, a Massachusetts judge declared a mistrial after jurors were unable to reach a unanimous decision.

Clancy was accused of killing her three young children in 2023, and her defense argued that she was not criminally responsible because of postpartum psychosis. Prosecutors disputed the defense’s position on her criminal responsibility.

Clancy’s attorney has since asked the court to dismiss the case rather than subject her to another trial. A judge is expected to consider that request on September 29, 2026.

For now, Walsh’s case remains in the pretrial stage.

Her defense team is preparing to challenge the prosecution’s allegations, while prosecutors continue to pursue the first-degree murder charges.

The connection to the Lindsay Clancy trial has become a major focus of public attention, but Walsh’s attorneys maintain that there is no established connection between the two cases.

As the proceedings continue, the court will ultimately determine what evidence can be presented and whether the allegations against Walsh can be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
