A NEW CHAPTER OF SURVIVAL AND STRENGTH: THE STORY OF KRYSTINA PACHECO
Following a routine C-section in October 2022, Krystina Pacheco looked forward to life with her newborn daughter, Amelia, and young son, Owen. Within days, however, an IV site infection triggered severe septic shock. Placed in a medically induced coma on life support, Krystina faced a mere 20 percent chance of survival. While she ultimately beat the infection, compromised blood flow forced the amputation of both arms below the elbows and both legs below the knees, alongside extensive skin grafts.

Returning home after more than three months in hospitals and rehabilitation, Krystina confronted profound physical and emotional adjustments. Drawing on her resilience as a former fitness instructor and school psychologist, she relearned everyday tasks, adapted to prosthetics, and navigated the emotional weight of missing precious months with her children. Her unwavering motivation centered on her family and the desire to be an active, hands-on mother.

Over the following years, Krystina rebuilt her life entirely. By 2025, she returned to work as a school psychologist, pursued a doctorate in special education, and publicly shared her journey to inspire others facing major trauma. Above all, she achieved her deeply personal goal of dancing with her husband, Jacob, once again. Embracing the outlook that “tomorrow will be beautiful,” Krystina proved that survival was only the beginning of learning how to live, adapt, and thrive anew.
