“HE WAS ONLY TWO YEARS OLD” — LITTLE BOY DIES IN HORRIFIC PUMPKIN PATCH PARKING LOT ACCIDENT AS FAMILY’S HAPPY DAY TURNS TO TRAGEDY

James Dabin Gabriel was enjoying a family outing to pick pumpkins when a devastating accident changed his loved ones’ lives forever. His grandmother was also struck by the vehicle and rushed to hospital as the family faced an unimaginable loss.

What was supposed to be a joyful autumn day ended in heartbreak for a New Jersey family after a two-year-old boy was fatally struck by an SUV in a pumpkin patch parking lot.

James Dabin Gabriel, affectionately known as “Jimmy James,” died on October 3, 2026, after the incident at Bullock Farms and Screamin’ Hill Brewery in Cream Ridge, New Jersey.

The toddler had been visiting the farm with his family to enjoy the seasonal pumpkin-picking outing when the accident occurred shortly after 11 a.m.

According to the New Jersey State Police, a Chrysler SUV was backing out of a parking space when it struck James and his 66-year-old grandmother, Ellen Gabriel.

James suffered fatal injuries, while his grandmother was taken to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

The incident is being investigated by New Jersey State Police. The driver has not been publicly identified in the reports cited here, and authorities have not announced criminal charges.

James’ father, Robert Gabriel, later spoke about the devastating loss, describing the experience as “absolute devastation.”

The family had simply wanted to spend time together and enjoy a day out. Instead, they were left confronting a tragedy no parent could ever prepare for.

Reports indicate that Robert had been walking ahead with the couple’s four-month-old daughter when the collision happened. James was with his grandmother at the time.

The suddenness of the incident has made the loss especially difficult for the family, whose ordinary plans for the day turned into an emergency.

In a tribute shared through a fundraising campaign, James’ mother, Meiling Gabriel, remembered her son as a curious, energetic, playful and affectionate little boy who brought enormous joy to the family.

She described how his arrival had transformed their lives and how deeply he was loved.

James enjoyed familiar childhood favourites, including Bluey, trucks, cars and planes. Like many toddlers, he found wonder in the everyday things adults might overlook.

His family’s memories paint a picture of a little boy discovering the world around him — a child whose personality had already left a lasting mark on those closest to him.

For his parents, the loss means facing a future without the little boy who had filled their home with affection, curiosity and energy.

HIS GRANDMOTHER WAS ALSO INJURED

James’ grandmother, Ellen, was struck in the same collision and taken to hospital.

The incident has affected not only the immediate family but also the emergency responders and people who were at the farm that morning.

Local officials expressed their sorrow over the tragedy and acknowledged the emotional impact on everyone involved. Grief counselling resources were made available to affected individuals.

The farm also expressed deep sadness over the incident, describing the loss as unimaginable.

THE INVESTIGATION CONTINUES

New Jersey State Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Initial reports say the Chrysler SUV was reversing out of a parking space when it struck James and his grandmother. However, the investigation remains active, and authorities have not publicly announced whether the driver will face charges.

The case has also renewed attention on pedestrian safety in busy parking areas, particularly when young children are present.

Safety advocates note that toddlers can be difficult to keep close in crowded areas and recommend carrying very young children or securing them in a stroller whenever possible.

These precautions cannot undo what happened to James, but they underline how important it is to take extra care around moving vehicles.

A COMMUNITY REMEMBERS JAMES

A fundraising campaign was launched to support the grieving Gabriel family with funeral expenses and to help create a lasting tribute to James.

The response has reflected the compassion of people moved by the story of a little boy whose life ended far too soon.

James was only two years old. He had so much childhood ahead of him — more birthdays, more adventures, more moments with his parents, his grandmother and his baby sister.

Instead, his family must hold on to the memories they made during his short life.

His story is a painful reminder of how quickly an ordinary family outing can change, and how precious even the smallest everyday moments can be.

Rest in peace, Jimmy James. You were deeply loved, and your family will carry your memory with them.
