“THE TIGER TOOK NO NOTICE” — WITNESS RECALLS DESPERATE MOMENTS BEFORE FATAL YORKSHIRE WILDLIFE PARK TRAGEDY

A woman watched in horror as visitors tried to intervene during the terrifying moments surrounding a fatal tiger encounter. Despite attempts to distract the animal, the situation unfolded with devastating consequences. Now, witness accounts are shedding light on the moments before 24-year-old William Chapman lost his life.

A heartbreaking eyewitness account has emerged following the death of William Chapman at Yorkshire Wildlife Park in Doncaster, England.

The 24-year-old died on October 10, 2026, after entering an enclosure housing Altai, a male Siberian tiger. What followed left visitors deeply shaken and prompted renewed questions about the events leading up to the tragedy.

Ella Ford, 24, who was visiting the park with her boyfriend, later described witnessing the events unfold.

According to her account, people nearby desperately tried to get help as the situation escalated. One man reportedly banged on the fence in an attempt to frighten the tiger away.

But the animal appeared unfazed and took no notice of the effort.

Other visitors had reportedly tried to prevent Chapman from entering the enclosure. Witness accounts published by British media describe a woman attempting to pull him back as he approached the barriers.

Despite these efforts, Chapman entered the enclosure, where he was approached by the tiger.

Emergency services were called shortly after 1:30 p.m. on October 10. Chapman sustained fatal injuries during the encounter and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident prompted the evacuation of visitors while staff and emergency responders dealt with the situation.

South Yorkshire Police urged the public not to circulate distressing footage of the incident, particularly out of respect for Chapman’s family.

 INVESTIGATORS CONTINUE TO SEEK ANSWERS

An inquest opening on October 15 heard that Chapman had climbed over two fences before entering the enclosure. An initial post-mortem examination indicated that he died from multiple traumatic injuries.

His family described him as “a bright, warm and engaging young man” and said they were devastated by his loss.

The family had also raised concerns about his contact with mental health services before his death. Those concerns are being examined separately, and the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy remain under investigation.

A full inquest is scheduled for March 18, 2027. Doncaster Council is also conducting a health and safety investigation.

The park has confirmed that Altai remains safe and will not be euthanised as a result of the incident.

As more details emerge, the focus remains on understanding what happened and remembering William Chapman with dignity and compassion.
