A 47-year-old mother died after a car crash in Bridgend, Wales, with police confirming that her injuries were unrelated to the collision. A man has now been charged in connection with her death as authorities urge the public not to speculate.

The investigation into the death of Eleanor Barnfield has entered a new stage after Clifford Foster, 61, appeared at Newport Magistrates’ Court on Friday, October 23, charged with her murder.

Eleanor, 47, died in hospital on October 19 after her car collided with a wall on Coity Road in Bridgend, South Wales.

According to South Wales Police, officers attending the scene discovered that Eleanor had sustained puncture wounds unrelated to the collision. She was taken to hospital, where she later died.

The case has drawn significant public attention, particularly after misleading claims about the emergency response began circulating online.

MURDER CHARGE AND COURT APPEARANCE

Foster, who is from Bridgend, appeared before Newport Magistrates’ Court on October 23.

During the brief hearing, he spoke only to confirm his personal details and was not asked to enter a plea. The court was told that the case would proceed to Cardiff Crown Court.

Foster remains in custody as the legal process continues.

The charge is an allegation, and he is entitled to the presumption of innocence unless and until proven guilty.

AMBULANCE SERVICE RESPONDS TO ONLINE CLAIMS

The Welsh Ambulance Service has separately addressed social media rumours suggesting that emergency crews were delayed in reaching Eleanor.

The service said it received the call concerning the road traffic collision at approximately 12:44 p.m. on October 19.

A Cymru High Acuity Response Unit arrived at 12:51 p.m., seven minutes after the initial call. Two additional emergency ambulances arrived at 1:07 p.m. and 1:13 p.m.

Advanced critical care support was also provided by the Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service, whose team arrived by Wales Air Ambulance helicopter. Eleanor was transported to hospital by road.

In its statement, the ambulance service described rumours alleging a delayed response as “contradictory and misleading” and “factually untrue.”

Officials urged the public not to speculate or circulate misinformation while the investigation continues.

A FAMILY MOURNS A MUCH-LOVED MOTHER

In a tribute released through police, Eleanor’s family described her as the kindest, most loving and bravest person in the world.

“She meant everything to us and will be forever loved and missed deeply by her devoted family and friends,” they said. “She was our rock.”

Eleanor worked for Valleys to Coast, a housing association that also expressed profound sadness at the loss of its colleague.

Chief executive Jo Oak said Eleanor had made an important contribution to the organisation and the communities it served.

The organisation confirmed that it was cooperating fully with South Wales Police.

As court proceedings move forward, investigators are continuing their work to establish the circumstances surrounding Eleanor’s death.
