21-MONTH-OLD NYXAILIA HINTON DIES AFTER BEING STRUCK BY CAR AT TENNESSEE PUMPKIN PATCH
Her family is devastated after the toddler’s life was cut short during an outing in Sevierville. Her mother says she never gave permission for the babysitter to take her daughter to the pumpkin patch and is demanding answers.
A Tennessee family is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 21-month-old Nyxailia Hinton, who died after being struck by a car during an outing at a pumpkin patch in Sevierville.
What should have been an ordinary childhood experience ended in tragedy on October 27, at a pumpkin patch on Happy Hollow Lane.
According to the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office, Nyxailia fell and was struck by a vehicle driven by a family friend. Emergency responders rushed the little girl to the hospital, where she received treatment for serious injuries.
A fundraising page established to help her family said Nyxailia suffered a fractured skull and ribs and required a blood transfusion. Despite efforts to save her, she died from her injuries.
HER MOTHER SAYS SHE DID NOT KNOW ABOUT THE OUTING
In an interview with local television station WVLT, Nyxailia’s mother, Peandra Hinton, said her daughter had been in the care of a babysitter who took her to the pumpkin patch.
Peandra said she had not given permission for the trip and did not know the people who were accompanying her little girl.
According to the report, it was the babysitter’s mother who contacted Peandra to tell her about the accident. She then rushed to the hospital.
The babysitter’s identity has not been publicly released. Authorities have not provided a detailed public account of how Nyxailia fell or exactly how the collision happened.
“SHE JUST LIT UP THE ROOM”
As her family struggles to cope with the loss, Peandra remembered her daughter as a joyful little girl who brought happiness to the people around her.
“She just lit up the room,” her mother told WVLT. “If you were having a bad day, you see Zayla, she’s gonna turn it all around.”
She also described the pain of waking up and realizing her daughter was gone.
“The fact that I couldn’t wake up this morning to my baby, it really tore me up,” Peandra said.
The toddler’s father also spoke about the family’s determination to find out what happened.
“We want justice for her,” he said, explaining that the tragedy had devastated the entire family. <Cite refs={[“turn585815search0″,”turn585815search1”]}/>
FAMILY SEEKS ANSWERS AS INVESTIGATION CONTINUES
The Sevier County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the incident remains under investigation.
Authorities said the vehicle was driven by a family friend, but have not publicly identified the driver or announced criminal charges.
The circumstances surrounding the outing and the moments leading up to the collision remain under investigation. The family, meanwhile, is making funeral arrangements and asking for answers about the loss of their daughter.
A LITTLE GIRL WHO SHOULD HAVE HAD A LIFETIME AHEAD OF HER
Nyxailia was only 21 months old.
She should have had countless birthdays to celebrate, toys to play with, holidays to enjoy and memories to make as she grew older.
Instead, her parents are left with photographs, precious memories and the unimaginable pain of saying goodbye to their little girl.
Her mother will remember the child who could brighten a difficult day with a smile. Her family will remember the little girl whose life, though far too short, meant everything to them.
No parent should have to endure such a loss.
As investigators continue working to establish exactly what happened at the pumpkin patch, Nyxailia’s loved ones are left hoping for answers and asking for justice.
Rest in peace, sweet Nyxailia Hinton. You will never be forgotten.
